Magpie trapped in a cage

Magpies are quite nasties.. but hmm i'd prob be tempted to free it to be honest.

Farmer folk out there: What happens to this bait magpie in the end? Sure it has water but.. you leave it there until it dies? I'm guess this happens most of the time, as for checking it everyday erm lol?

I'd personally rather pick on the cuckoo.

I've just been down to the stables with my Mrs to help her with her horse and there were 2 magpies in traps down there, reminded me of this thread, she wanted to release them but they had a lock on so she couldn't :)

Magpies are real nasty creatures, they're vermin. What's on the box is accurate, it's an offence to free it. Don't.

Lol. You coinsiderbeing taken to court over that? They aint gunna trace your fignerprints to it. Aslong as no one is watching just free it.

It does really annoy me when people who know nothing about how the countryside works start getting up on the righteous horse and start having a go at the 'evil' farmers for doing some basic pest control.

Magpies are vermin even if they do look nice, they are nasty nasty little buggers and they need to be controlled. Provided that the farmer has adhered to all the recommended guidelines then he is doing nothing illegal and infact is just doing his job. As previously stated, releasing it is an offence. Chances are the bird has had a much better quality of life than most the animals the meat in <insert generic supermarket here> has come from.

It's understandable, no one likes seeing an animal in distress but by releasing it you are doing more harm in the long run to the songbirds, crops, environment, countryside generally.

I'm tempted get an air rifle and go shooting the buggers in the trees, atleast it would be a quick death :)
