Chinas space walks faked

yeah cause if you're going to film your countries first space walk you're going to use a low quality web cam to film it. not like you're going to take a full HD camera or anything extravagant like that.

compared to US footage its rather exceptional of course they'll take HD footage etc but i think its fake.

I've spent some time now watching that vid and I'm sure the flag movement is from the Astronaut's wrist, you have to watch is in slow motion several times, you can clearly see his wrist moving a few ms before the flag does.

Video in OP seems a little convincing, but a little reading around explains everything. Take nothing the OP video says for granted and you'll realise that its heavily built on unfounded claims (things like "OMFG the flag DEFINITELY moves JUST like it does in water!").

Alas, china's space walks were not faked.

Bubbles in space?
I don't want to know how they managed to work it out as a bubble with such a low-res video, I need to see a higher one myself but there's always been odd particles flying about in a few videos.

This was all shown as they were getting out of the module too, so probably loose particles.

In water?.
Well here's it starts.

They've managed to get such high resolution videos, not close up either as well as light reflecting off the visors, in water it wouldn't be so clear and especially not moving water.

Even in the video linked in the OP the underwater testing lab shows what it'd really be like underwater.

I don't even want to try explain their work around of pressurised oxygen tanks supplying oxygen to the astronauts and where it's all going and how they dealt with bouyancy if this was true.

Flag
If it was waving about like that in water then the image would be even worse, not only that the astronauts manage to keep their place. The flag waves because of the tencile strength of the materials used to make the flag, it isn't like a flag we use here on earth it has to be rigid so it can be seen on camera.

In microgravity/zero mavity if the flag base is moved the flag will follow shortly, but as it get's near it's "bending" capacity it'll want to bounce back like a ruler being bent for example. That's why it's all over the place.

"into the water"
Unless any of us speak chinese I wouldn't believe a word the video tells me what they supposedly said.

They never free float
Uhhhmmm I think we need to just check again, yes...free floating enough for me.

Why is the earth always in the same position.
Somehow for hours?!

Because they are orbiting it.

Earth's clouds move very quickly
I would bloody hope so moving at around 17,000mph/4.7miles a second relative to the ground.

Why is the video and audio so clear
Welcome to earth, ever heard of High resolution satellite television? Pretty much the same thing going on here.

Also it was last year or the yar before Japan shot a probe passed the moon and were the first to use higher resolution cameras.

Yep, why is the guy making the video so surprised??

High Res video, pre-recorded but being downlinked live - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CMc8Aydk4k

Very tired/on meds at the moment so not sure if all of this is coming out in good english... ;)

A few decades have passed since the moon land sings/major American videos. cottage from the ISS is crystal clear.

shouldnt there be stars in the background?

I would assume the light wash from the sun reflecting off the earth would mean that the stars wouldn't be picked up. Much like you not being able to see the stars right now despite the fact they are still there.

Why shouldn’t the Chinese fake a space walk in 2009? The Americans made a walk in the Colorado Desert (or wherever) in 1969 look like a walk on the moon. And to make things worse the Americans in 1969 stated that there was little or no mavity on the moon, come off it, if there wasn’t any mavity up there all those rocks would fall off!:D

After putting more thought into it and reading all the posts and links put here I'm a little sceptical of the claims now too.

I'm sure the US would have been tracking the craft via satellite anyway, unless they had a deal with China to keep their mouths shut I see them jumping at a chance like this to make it public.

The only things I'm still iffy about in the video are that all debris/bubbles shoot straight up far faster then they should given that the hatch was open so long there's no chance that there was that much gas still coming out, it also doesn't explain why the debris later on coming from different areas shoot upwards too. Granted if the object was slowed, ie pushed backwards from the direction of orbit it would slowly start to "sink" towards the earth due to lack of speed. To say that any object would react like those did though is ludicrous.

As for the flag, I've seen mythbusters, flags act funky in a vacuum so that's no proof against it. And the lights could have been on the craft, I thought that when I first saw the video too.

What really gets me is how much force the man and his tethers are being pushed upwards with, that just wouldn't happen in that situation.

At exactly the right speed? And why doesn't it move in the shot?

I don't know if it is faked, seems a bit far fetched that they would, but I don't think its as easy to explain as that..

Actually you can see from the equation g = -G(M/r^2) that during a normal orbit the earths gravitational force is almost as powerful as it is on the ground, objects will be attracted towards the earth.
Yes but all objects will be attracted equally, so the clips would not float towards the earth independently of the main ship. (Although this is obviously not enough proof on its own - could be down to the flexibility of the ropes or something)

The only thing that i find strange about the video is the position of the earth. I've never tried flying a space craft but i'd imagine that its quite difficult to get perfectly stable at the speed its going and surely even a few degrees of rotation would be noticeable because of the distance away from earth?
Even "fixed orbit" satellites are not perfectly stationary and "wobble" a bit iirc (may be wrong about this though)

If the Americans managed to do this in 1965 then surely China could do this in 2008? Why would the need to fake something that Americans managed to do 40 years earlier? Can't be that hard...can it?
