Arch Enemy

I bought Doomsday Machine and I was very very dissappointed. But I shouldn't have expected much with a title like that. Just sounded uninventive to me, novelty of awesome female vox didn't carry it. Guitars whilst catchy are a bit too lame for me. Exception of one song that just sticks in my mind, it's number 4 on that disc,,,,can't be bothered to look it up.

Now this on the otherhand...

The guitarists previous work, much better. And I see that they're now back together? Wow, interesting.

Going that way are we, I see... try this :D

ha old vid that *chugada chugada chugda* :D

I met John Kempainen (lead guitarist) he was really pleasant to talk to, very humble, but a lot of metal bands are like this, which is a good thing. Gutted that he left though :(

The solo in 'Deathmask Divine' off their latest album has to be one of my all time favourites.

Buy it, I think its my favourite of all 3, the guitar tone is sexual.

Dimmu rule, as do In Flames, I shall keep my opinion to myself about DF though :D

I know, I've seen them twice and they're awesome live but I sometime get dissconnected from the metal scene and loose track of awesome releases. I'm trying to justify a purchase for Amon Amarth - Twilight of the Thunder God.

Viking Metal is so powerful and awesome I never get tired of it!

Listen to Guardians of Asgaard a few times....there's your justification :P

Although to be fair, Amon Amarth are more extreme/death/viking metal mix than pure viking metal, which is more Turisas etc :)

RE: Dragonforce
I actually quite like thier older stuff, the last album was bad though, and IR wasn't that great.
Just because they've gone out of fashion doesn't stop the older stuff being decent. They need to look at varying thier sound, rather than just throwing tricks together, as they've become a bit of a one trick horse. Seen them twice now, once in Leeds (awful) and once at Download 2007, where they were actually a lot of fun, so I'll be watching them this year and be hoping for a repeat of the last DL performance not the Leeds one!

The fact that a lot of people liked them until Inhuman Rampage/Ultra Beatdown seems to be a bit of a giveaway on that one!

I don't get bored of Amon Amarth no matter how much I listen to them, I've gone off mainstream metalcore and tend to just listen to Death/Black/Grind now.

I hate Dragonforce, their's only so many times you can listen to their song's until you get bored. I'll wait until I can get Twilight of the thunder god for a fiver :D, don't really have a lot of cash at the moment.

Everyone seems to be missing the point that Spie seems only interested in metal bands with female vocals. I've seen this time and time again, people getting into metal through Evanescence [no, they're not a metal band but they opened the door for a lot of people] and then they get into heavier bands with female vocals. Some eventually move over to male vocal bands but it can take years. I exclusively listened to female vocal metal for three years before moving over to male-fronted bands.

And yes, Angela may sound like a bloke but the psychological difference is still there. I still stand by my recommendation of Decadence, probably the closest I've heard to Arch Enemy.
