One of my staff did this to his 2007 Focus on Friday. Despite the ~50mph impact, head on into a tree there is absolutely no intrusion into the cockpit whatsoever (just a very slight twist in the dashboard).

Obviously the car is a writeoff (every single panel forward of the windscreen is bent and it's lost all its coolant and oill) but James is fine (thank god), not a mark on him. I'm sure in an older and less substantial car he'd be brown bread right now.

What's really strange though is that none of the airbags deployed. Can anyone fathom why that might be the case?

How do you guys reckon the chinese car compares to something older and European, let's say a Peugeot 306?

airbags should have gone off definately.

Why, have you analysed the ECU and found a fault in the airbag system?

Airbags only deploy when the sensors reckon they are needed. As they didnt deploy yet he got out of the car without a mark on him, clearly they were not required.

They weren't required because the impact was probably around 15-20mph.

At 30mph, your head will be headbutting the steering wheel.

Possibly 50 when he lost it - you scrub off far more speed than you think en route to an accident.

He reckoned 60, I thought 10mph was enough to deduct allowing for exaggeration and the fact he most likely wasn't looking at the speedo at the time :D.

Maybe 40mph but the car is a lot more mangled than it looks in the picture.

So he didn't brake at all? I'm no crash investigator but 40 does seem more plausible.

I don't think there was time to brake. He got it very sideways on a corner, left the road and tried to climb the tree.
