Makes you sick best person for the job isnt good anymore now if your white male you can be shafted no matter if you have teh skills for the job.

A little ironic that they think to ensure "equality", we must judge people on their gender and race.

I doubt it'll go through.
 
Why wouldn't it? Judging people on sex and "race" is part of the foundation of "new Labour", as is discrimination stemming from that prejudice. This is far from the first law they've passed in this vein. Doubleplusgood equalities, citizen! Harman is just another bigot. A very successful one, but still a bigot.
 
It's stupid how we can't say anything of the sort around sicriminating them them yet they can do it to us in our own country. In the police they have to employ a certain number of ethnic people, so, if a white person is more suited to the job the ethnic person will still get it. They are taking it way over the top. They say they don't think black and white should be treated differently yet come up with these stupid regulations.

Considering the amount of money involved, it is unlikely to mean absolutely nothing. She's dedicated to promoting racism and sexism - it's her life's work. She's not going to change the law and leave it as something absolutely meaningless.
 
This is a bad policy, to be successful you want the best people doing the job irrespective of other factors that are unrelated to their abilities.

The thread title is misleading but it's still a policy which I can only see as counter-productive.

No, i am saying that 'these new rules could means other ethnic groups could be chosen over whites' means stuff all. they could interchange white with black or asian and it still follows the new rules.
 
How well are women/ethnic minorities represented in the boardrooms of corporate Britain?

Who knows, perhaps if there'd been fewer white men in suits running the banks then the country wouldn't be in the mess it's in atm...
 
So, if you're a Black, Deaf, Partially-Sighted, One Legged, Special Needs, Lesbian Muslim Dwarf with a Speech Impediment, you'd theoretically be able to get ANY Job you want in the UK.
