200sx few questions

still at work going back later to pick it up,

green 96 n reg 200, 99k miles good amount of service history 4 good tyres 6 months tax 12 months mot month warranty (Wowsers >.>) for £1800 pump was done at 86k

just remember it takes a bit of time for the turbo to spool up. First time i drove my 7, i did appreciate that there would be lag but i didnt realize all hell would break loose when i hit 3.5k on a wide open throttle :D

If you want to surprise yourself just find a wet carpark and boot it when you're at a gentle angle in first gear. The spinning sensation stops after a while, honest :D

Make sure it's an empty car park free of obstructions like lamp posts, trolley parks and policemen if you're going to try that.

so driven it back and it drives nicely really smooth acceleration gearbox and clutch, did get it slightly sideways on a couple of empty mini roundabouts but nothing epic drift style, whoever said it doesnt feel 'that fast' stock is a bit right, its certainly quick but more of a constant acceleration than the sudden jolt I have felt on other turbo cars, only thing I can tell is wrong is a slight whine from what I assume must be a wheel bearing (sounds like front offside) seems to whine at speed and does it in or out of gear so I dont think its anything to do with the engine or gearbox, apart from that very tidy and a nice car :D.

No pictures as yet (well I do have one but the lense on my w810i is broken so it gives a lovely blurry picture effect :p)

Yep standard cars have a relatively linear power delivery that doesnt feel all that fast but when you look at the speedo, you'll notice that you are travelling at speed. Get a grainger valve and and a boost gauge and it will feel completely different.

As a side note, if it is the front wheel bearing that is on its way out then its about £150+ to fix, as its part of the hub assembly. So when you buy a new wheel bearing it comes as part of a new hub.

Get some pictures up mate (and not imageshack/photobucket as i cant view them at work lol)

This may sound cheeky but how old are you, how many no claims you got, and how much was your insurance ?:p

He's 20/21, with a couple NCB I think and insurance is just over a grand again, I think.

He's also ginger which should push up his insurance, but doesn't seem to. :p

When i changed the front pads on my brothers 1.4 Almera I noted the pads also catered for a 200SX!

The pads didn't look particularly large or special.

How are stock brakes on the 200SX? Sufficient?

Agreed - they are seriously twitchy, being totally truthful.
In the dry it really isn't much of an issue, but in the wet they are a right handful.

lots of fun though. if you can drive well in the wet obviouly.

i love the 200sx expecially the S13 as they seemed to be quicker even though its the 1.8 and not 2l. the s14 is heavier i believe?

With stock power and with the brakes in good condition they are fine, I ran stock brakes and cheapo pads for years and never had a problem, you just get a feel for the car and know the limits, go outside the limits and you end up in the back of someone else but that can be said for any car.

Thats because the 200SX brakes come in both turbo and non turbo varieties. Non turbo was import only, but had the same 4 stud hubs and brakes as virtually every UK Primera/Almera.

The UK 200SX were all turbos and had the larger 4 pots, same as classic Scooby's I think. The problem is the small disks which don't dissipate the heat to well really.
