Monarch Airlines - Any good?

Flew with them to Egypt, nothing to complain about but then again nothing really stood out with them either. Meal was very nice though and was given free headphones rather than having to pay for them.

Nothing wrong with them, as with all airlines you only ever really hear the complaints. Aircraft are fine and well maintained. Unlikely you will have delays from luton.

The only thing I would say Gimpy is your flying from luton? They have recently updated the drop off areas and it's a disaster.

Leave an extra half hour earlier than you normally would do as many people are missing flights due to the congestion coming off the motorway.

Sometimes it takes me half hour to travel 1/4 mile to my car park such is the **** up the idiots have made of the new layout.

Thanks all for the comments.

Thanks for the heads up Dannyjo and positive info regarding the airline, has been a mixed lot of reviews ive read to be honest.

Were parking in the Pink car park (Long Term). Need to be at the airport for 12.00PM so thought of getting there for about 10.30AM, would that be enough allowing for car park transfer/congestion?

Yeah you should be fine at that time of day, the early 6am-8am are the worst. There isn't a great deal in the terminal to do, so the less time the better really.

Loads of my mates work at Monarch and aircraft are well maintained at Luton.

I never eat flight food or drink water from an aircraft that comes from the tank and always take my own so food standard never really bothers me. The flights not that long that I couldn't eat in the terminal and then snack anyway.

All very positive to hear.

Any idea what the entertainment is like on their planes? We have a couple of young ones so seat-back TV's would be a bonus but it is a budget airline so dont expect too much.

Flew with them a few times a couple of years ago and they were fine. When I went they didn't have tv's in the headrests or anything like that, just one that came down from the ceiling and you had headphones that went into the chair where you could listen to the TV or a couple of radio stations. As I say though that was a few years ago now.

The company I work for just started supplying monarch with their inflight entertainment, so the stuff you will be watching will have been partly worked on by me :p

Didnt monarch used to be one of the mainstream airlines back in the day? I remember we used them a lot when i was little. Cant be as bad as RyanAir or Easyjet!

Not really mainstream any more than they are now, a typical charter airline though. They probably stand out to you because they are one of the only ones that still exist after (British) Caledonian, Air 2000, Dan Air, Excel (XL) etc. all fell by the wayside.

The only problem with Monarch like any other charter airline is the people that fly with them. You're more likely to have a group of loud and obnoxious ****** drinking themselves stupid on board.

Apart from that they're pretty good. No different to any of the rest really.
