Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

There's a 'we hate fat-gief' club. I wouldn't recommend you join though, it comprises of me and margaret and we're both grumpy buggers.

Finally modded my stick (parts were delivered to my parents house of out of error due to my own fault) but left SF4 at my flat! I'm not going home for another week so i've got a stick but nothing to play it with D:

I hate sagat more. Whenever I play against a player thats sagat they sit in the corner and spam constantly. It's just really boring......

I got owned by a blanka player but I didn't mind because they played well but the sagat players just don't do anything :(

Most gief players I play tend to be idiots and easily beatable.

i find the same happens when i play akuma. fireball after fireball, low and high.
I seem to do pretty well against Akuma, it's fairly easy to get under the air fireballs, just dash forward. Once you're behind the fireball defence, they usually only have sweeps and dragon punches as defence, which are fairly easy to exploit.
In general, good Akuma players don't have to resort to fireball spamming, crap ones do and don't know what to do once you've got close.
That's what I've found anyway.

Fireball spamming from akuma at the high end is rare, mainly because the player knows it leaves them open to easy ultras (i know that Abel and Balrogs ultras are certain to hit if timed correctly off an air fireball)

What makes akuma difficult is his insane combo potential with DP and hurricane kick, good players can do stupid amounts of damage in a very short amount of time with him.

Oh man I hate playing the gief as well. I've yet to play any decent one (well recently anyway), but most of my games against him usually consists of spamming fireballs at range then dragon punching if he jumps in. I'll usually keep some of my EX meter spare if he gets to close to comfort on the ground so I can use my EX fireballs as that stops most of his attacks dead.

Had to laugh once as well as I got knocked down and the person I was playing against tried to Ultra me on wake up. Suspecting he would do some sort of command throw or something, I used an EX Dragon punch on reversal and knocked him out of his Ultra! :D

Sometimes I'll be a bit cheeky and jump in and do some combo or maybe even try and throw him (looks really wierd when you throw someone big like Zangief)! After I do this I usually GTFO and start spamming fireballs again. :p

Likewise I hate playing against Sagat as well. The key for me against Sagat is I try and make good use of focus cancels to get through the barrage of fireballs. Mid range is a bit difficult as it's difficult to decide what to do. Generally I try and mix it up as much as I can so I can catch the player out. Once you're in close I just try and put the pressure on so I can dictate the game from there.

I quite like standing next to a gief player waiting for him to do his ultra on getup, and doing an ex hurricane kick with Ryu,smashes them to pieces and is beautiful.

I hate Gief, and the good Gief players I can't touch, the lariat spammers are not so bad tho. Guile double sweep is awesome for them.

Spending today in the training room, it's not going well :(

Occasionally I'll have an online game, soley (sp?) for the purpose of trying out the combo/technique I've been practicing and it's never positive :/
Think I'm so used to my play style (quite defensive, few combo's, mainly reliant on punishing rather than attacking) that I slip straight back into my old habbits and if I do use something new I have to make a conscious effort to do so, which is to the detriment of the rest of my game.

Still not any good with SRK -> FADC -> Ultra. The other day I thought I had it sorted in training, but I've never managed it online and today in training I'm only landing it one in five tries :(

Gonna stick at it for a while, Rome wasn't built in a day and all that and hope that I get so used to what I'm doing it becomes second nature when I'm online......

No real point to my post, just wanted a break from failed FADC -> Ultra, for a minute!!!

from what ive seen when im playing you beans, your main weakness is that you are too defensive, you dont apply any pressure at all. i found it very easy to trap you in a corner and keep you there.

you need to work on your zoning i think, the most basic part of ryu's game is fireball spam + anti air. its a very simple idea that works and i rarely see you use fireballs really... you need to give them a reason to jump. mid-range is when the mind games begin and your opponent must takes risks to get through your fireballs.

i noticed you used cr.mk a lot more which is good but alone is not that great... you should try and use fireball straight after it in most cases. cr.mk alone is FA bait and crap damage when it hits by itself.

as for FADC -> ultra, go into practice mode and just practice DP -> FADC over and over again.

DP -> FA (keep hold!) -> dash.

most people mess it up because they release FA too early.

good akuma players are scary, the turtle air fireball spam turns into air fireball traps -> combos :|

Tis true, due to the lack of fireball spam i can just dash in with Abel, no need even for a roll which can leave me open if i use the wrong type/use it at the wrong moment. Then, once close as you seem to rely on blocking a punishable move and then punishing i just abuse tornado throw, unblockable and unpunishable.

i thinking of maining abel been using him a lot in championship mode lately but still have a lot to learn, but then again i also like using bison and rufus he just so much fun to play with

What are everyone's thoughts on making a opponent block a standard punch or kick and instantly going for a throw? I used to play SF2 back in the day, and it was considered 'cheap'. But now I'll be fighting someone online and they will suddenly start using this tactic when they get desperate (although some use it from the start). It really winds me up, and put's me off my game.

I've started to use it if they do it to me but I'm thinking maybe I should incorprate it into my game as everyone is at it.

its not cheap its an actual tactic, its called tick throwing :)

throws beat block so its a fairly obvious option to throw... why make it easy for them and allow them to sit there block all day? if you start incorporating it into your game and learn how to beat it then you can up your game and you'll start playing the real game that everyone else is playing :D

Throw is a massive part of the game tbh, I hardly ever used it at all and use to get thrown about for joke =/ but now I have started using throw at every opportunity. Remember if you think they are about to throw you and you also go for a throw you 'block' their throw. Forget about 'cheap' tactics, its all part of the game so just play to have fun and win!

Its not like I sit there and block all day, but for example if someone jumps in and I don't counter I'll obviously block, but as I don't expect the throw (it didn't happen a lot when I played SF2/turbo etc in the arcades) it really gets to me. I will then spend the whole match trying to do the same :) which will lead to me getting beat...

It doesn't annoy me as much now because I see it so often, but yeah I think I should not consider it 'cheap' and start throwing like there is no tomorrow.

cheers for the replys guys, don't get me wrong I enjoy the game more than any other online game I have come across. I'm not saying this tactic is causing me to lose all the time, but I have it ingrained in my head that it is 'cheap' from SF2 so when I get hit by it now I get annoyed. But if it is considered normal within the SF4 community then fine, I shall start using it :)

My psn id is arezegum27, hope I'll catch some of you online one day.

Cheers to Ojste and Streeteh for the above comments, funnilt enough been working on following a cr.mk with hado, it's one of a few tweaks I'm starting to make to my game.
I think it's time to step up a bit, I've got the basics down and I'm enjoying it now more than when I got it so I'm going to put some effort into improving.

Work in progress is....

Start using cross ups - something I absolutely never do and should (any tips Ojste or Margaret as you guys ALWAYS cross up?)
Get used to comboing more -Simple stuff like j.hk -> cr.mk -> hado is very simple and effective but sadly neglected in my game
Take time for the training room - A lot of the time I would take rounds if it wasn't for my poor execution. The number of missed ultra's I've had is outrageous!! And as for FADC -> Ultra, if I tried it now at best it's be a waste of 2x EX bars.....
Try to incorporate more aggression - This is really as a result of Ojste's post above. Time after time I find myself cornered and never really thought that I might be too defensive

I think I fell into the false sense of security that I was half decent at this game, when in fact, I suck!! All good though, I'm enjoying it regardless and I'm more than happy to put the work in :)
