Hi all,

I recently changed my crappy Sky Router for a Netgear DG834PN. Very happy, internet is now much quicker, wireless range is excellent.

However, MSN just will not sign in from the Mac Pro or my Macbook. I've tried Mercury (what I normally use) and Microsoft Messenger and neither of them work

However, MSN works perfectly on a clients XP machine I have sitting right here...

any ideas?

Thanks,
Jake

Just the "official" MSN? Or does Adium fail as well?

[Edit] No, I fail for not reading the OP.

Sounds like ports not open properly. Try connecting via HTTP?

Could try opening the ports (6891-6900), not sure what to suggest apart from that though.

You mean on the router?

I've created a custom rule to allow anything inbound and outbound on ports 6000 to 7000 and not working.

How do I connect via HTTP?

Oh and just installed Adium, that doesn't work either.

Just having a browse around for you and saw this thread...

Second to last post says it might be a problem with that specific router.

Cheers dude.

Soddit....seems netgear have ballsed up. I have tried opening Port 443 just now and it didn't seem to work...hmm

EDIT: There is a Firmware upgrade for the router, shall download it and give it a go! :)

wehey! saved you looking for another one, or worse reverting back to the sky provided one.

I wouldn't revert back to the sky one! not after the trouble I went to getting the adsl username/password....sky don't give you it ;)

FWIW there's an option in the Adium preferences to use HTTP, I believe it's in the connection settings somewhere. :)

Glad you got it sorted.
