time for new discs soon. the old discs have been on for two years and a lot of miles, but they only have a 1mm lip on them. unfortunately they have light scoring so i wont be keeping those

a friend of mine has grooved discs on her audi and after 2 years there is no scoring at all. part of me is thinking the grooves must keep pad and disc wear even

so im going for grooved discs, either ate or brembo, if they can last for 2 sets of pads i save money despite the slightly higher initial outlay

who here has experience of these discs and what did you think of them?

for my car there is about £4 price difference, brembos being more expensive

Grooves means less surface area for the pads to clamp onto, it also makes pads wear quicker IIRC.

IMO you'd be better off getting some OEM Brembo discs and some fancy pads :)

my current discs are brembo. only a 1mm lip after two years and a lot of miles, but theyre scored lightly so i cannot use them again, hence im going to try grooved

I've been running the maxs for about 2 years now no problems. I average about 15k a year and still have the same pads on as when I put the discs on (changed everything at the same time).

Grooved are better than drilled for road use. Drilled discs need to be maintained otherwise the holes just get clogged up and are then pointless.

The grooves located in a special pattern that the pad and disc are worn evenly.

id had drilled ones in the past. they didnt clog too badly but the discs and pads scored badly due to the holes.

picking up some brembo max this afternoon. ive got the pads and brake fluid, i need the calipers though... then some time and motiveation to bother to do it :P

I've had some red dot grooved discs in the past that were very good with uprated pads.
Just be ready for the strange whirring noise when you brake!!

ive got ebc yellows at the moment, i think theyre great and ive got a brand new set going on with the brembo maxs

ill post back in 6 months or so to report back

I thought I recognized the title. Ill check when I pop out later. They were great discs, did get the usual hum when braking hard.

Had grooved discs on my e36 when I bought it, they made a horrendous racket and for zero benefit. Can't understand why you would want them on a road car.
