Hello all,

Does anyone here have this lens? I was just wondering what the general opinion of it was and how much you paid for it?

Any sample pics would be appreciated.

Cheers,

i paid £269 for mine back in dec 07.

i can do you some more examples later..

That's incredibly nice and sharp! If you don't mind posting a few more examples?

I picked up a used one for £165, I want it to replace my kit lens on my 30D. I also have a 70-200mm, the Canon f/4 L which can sometimes be a bit heavy walking about with and isn't good for landscapes.

We might have the same lenses, and practically the same cameras??!

Optically, the Tamron 17-50 2.8 is definitely better and the overall IQ much better. And the 17mm is nice.

Pretty much every comparison I have seen has supported this, be it personal comments in forums, reviews form professionals like Thom Hogan, or data from sites like photozone or SLRgear. The difference isn't black and white, but the Tamron is undoubtedly the best performer.

Get the tamron....

The Tamron was supposed to be slower focusing and noisier.

I've already bought the Sigma for essentially peanuts compared to it's new price. I'll see how I get on, I can always sell it on if I don't like it :)

If I get sharpness like the above pics then I'll be very happy with it.

Didn't realise you already purchased the lens. Hopefully it works out.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the lens you've bought.

I looked at both the Sigma and Tamron a few months ago and couldn't pick between the two until I spotted a good deal on the Tamron so went for that.

I'm sure I would have been just as happy with the Sigma and that looks a good price that you paid:)

lol it was only a rough idea.. unfortunately i dont have time to do 100% crops on all those but feel free to look up the EXIF on my flickr (profile name "neilgates").

also appologies, i thought id linked the medium size files.

I'll post some shots up in here once I've had a play about. Probably looking at the weekend before I get used to it.

neil_g - thanks for your help. I thought the lens had curved the stone building, glad that's not the case! :D
