At work we quite often get visits from pikies that try to nick scrap metal and what ever they can lay their hands on. Its happened so often that work decided to put up a security gate which you have to swipe in and out of using our passes.

The other week the pikies came in behind a delivery driver and had a bit of a scout around but left in time before the gates shut. Today they turned up again and tried to grab a load of stuff so the IT department quickly closed the gates and disabled them. When the pikies tried to leave, they found the gates were shut and were locked in. They tried to find something to open the gates up in their van but couldnt do anything to budge the gates as they are rather heavy duty.

While they were messing around with the gates the police were called. Whilst waiting for the police, the pikies decide they arent getting away, so unload the stuff they took and waited by the gates as asked to be let out.

The police turned up with 3 cars and blocked the exit out past the gates. They couldnt do them for theft as they emptied the van before they turned up but the police found that they werent insured and didnt have any road tax on their van so they siezed the van :D So the pikies went off back to their caravan on some crappy layby somewhere with no swag and minus their van :D

Hopefully when I turn up for work tomorrow, they havent burned the place down.

They will just do More crime to cover there losses, I hope it isn't your House or Business they break in to.

Well, good work. But I suppose you should have let them steal things and get away so as to minimise their future crimes :/

Like when I go hiking in Canada I let bears eat me so they don't have to eat anyone else for a while. Yes. I do that a lot.

They will commit more crimes what ever, letting them go wouldnt reduce their crime spree. It was the managements descision due to the amount of times we (my employer) have been robbed, hence the large gates. I dont see why my employer should bear the brunt of the cost of getting robbed for fear of someone else getting robbed.

A business I collect from did the same, blocked some pikies in and rang the police.

Unfortunately transit vs heavy ish looking barrier and the transit won :(

Reg number taken down? Sounds like criminal damage to me.

It will all have been on cctv. But somehow after nicking thousands of pounds worth of metal, the barrier was the least of their worries. The van was probably stolen too.

I guess that's a small victory for honest people, for once :) ...tragic that they couldn't be arrested though, I guess you didn't have any security cameras on the gate showing what they were doing? ...surely this would be all the policen need to prove they were stealing, or at least trying to steal stuff and charge them.

We had a Mondeo hire car stolen out of the workshop once, the big roller shutter door was open, as it usually is (has to be really for the vehicles to get in and out as needed) one of the engineers had a brand new Mondeo hire car (this was a new MK3 about 5 years ago) he was going to use for the trip he had to make, he had the car in the workshop (which can't be seen from outside, this is also on an industrial estate that you don't really get the general public walking around), got out for a minute as he had forgotten some tools he needed, he left the keys in the car (mistake). And some ***** or chav jumped in and burned out of the workshop and up the road, gone just like that.

The guy rushed into the office and phoned the police as soon as he realised what was happening, which was as the car was leaving the workshop and told the police exactly what was happening and which direction the car was going etc ....they said they couldn't do anything about it and turned up the following day to take a statement and such

Bloody low life and scum and useless police. You can sort of understand why the opportunistic little bleeders do it, there are no damn consequences 90% of the time. The insurance company would not pay out either, as the keys were left in the car, although it wasn't running at the time. I forget what it cost now, basically had to pay the hire company for a brand new 53 plate Mondeo, about £15.5k I think it was, it realy was new too, had about 500 miles on it.

Had other stuff pinched over the years though, the same way, mostly tools or various kinds and a laptop once. A laptop with a piece of special proprietary software on it that is loaded onto the machine in Germany and sent over to us and was one of only 3 machines we had with it on. That was really annoying, as it took some weeks to get it all sorted. Buying a new laptop was the quick and easy part, sending it off to Germany to have this special software (the company it comes from will not let us have the install files for it, they control it’s circulation so tightly) put back onto it and then getting it back took several weeks all in all.

Just ****** pikies and chavs and other low life scum walking into the workshop and helping themselves to whatever is around, which is quite a lot of stuff and it really isn't practical to keep locking all the doors as vehicles are being worked on outside offten and the engineers need to keep coming in and out.

You're right, we should allow them to go about their business and rob whatever they like.

Where did I say let them do it ???
I merely stated that they will just go make it up by robbing elsewhere, Which is the truth, I made no call on it either way.

Isn't that the big fish you find in canals?

no thats a pike, i have an online gaming buddy who i play mmo's with and everyone in the guild always calls him a "*****" because of his irish accent.

so i assumed "*****" was the correct spelling but everyone in this thread seems to think otherwise
