Concerns Of Global Epidemic

I live in a relatively rural area so I thought I might scare the crap out of some of the locals by donning a Hazmat suit!

Masato Tashiro, head of the influenza virus research centre at Japan's National Institute of Infectious Disease and a member of the WHO emergency committee, said: "The virus is relatively weak and about the same as regular influenza viruses passed on via human-to-human contact. I don't believe it will become virulent.

"The threat to health from the avian influenza and its fatality rate is much greater than the new flu.

"I am very worried that we will use up the stockpile of anti-flu medicine and be unarmed before we need to fight against the avian influenza. The greatest threat to mankind remains the H5N1 avian influenza."

It's pretty much just regular flu.

Personally I would say, what's happening now is a kinda of a pactice for when a really bad one hits. And we do need this practice, so yeah it's all over the top, leaflets etc, but it needs to be done so we know how best to deal with a real nasty bug when that appears down the road.

Oh my, I have just seen one of the people infected in the UK lives in Redditch.

There are two people in my office who live in Redditch.

Yes, but when I have two children, one who is under 23 months old, it does make you worry a little.

I dont mean to offend here or sound heartless, but do you worry the same as this with every other flu virus that does the rounds each year? Get them put in a bubble if you are that worried?!

Generally you dont go rubbing people with flu over your children normally?

I am playing devils advocate to some degree here...

I agree with this guy. Lets all panic and go bonkers so when bid flu does hit, we cant do anything about it. Plus, if we all panic and go bonkers now and everything is fine how many people will take bird flu seriously if that becomes a threat?
