Rice: When the president approves it, it is not illegal

I came to this thread expecting to read an article that Obama owns a Honda Civic with a stupid wing, loud exhaust and illegal headlights, or something along those lines.

Collateral damage to be honest. It's war, **** happens!

are you changing your sig on a regular basis???? or am i immagining it??

agreed, nothing is full proof, people that are innocent have been known to go for jail for ages, only to be realeased years later

I dunno teki is the guy who claims garlic is going to be come perspiration only sometime this year after the evil WHO bans it...

Now that's stupid. Garlic should be allowed, but garlic perspiration should be banned, not the other way around.

It's using a rotation script.

Where's the war bit then. I can't see any war. If you think it's related to Iraq/Afghanistan you're a mug.

Perhaps you were out of the Country and missed it, but there are these fanatic Muslim fellas going about flying hijacked planes in buildings and detonating backpack bombs on crowded public transport systems.

Well he's exaggerating, but he's not far off. He's talking about Codex Alimentarius, which comes into force at the end of this year. I won't link you to any sites as you'd presumably label them CT nutters but have a read for yourself and see what you think. :)
Yeah, we did this song and dance a year ago and I rubbished it with about 30 minutes worth of reading. Go search the Speaker's Corner forum for yourself and see what you think. :)

That said, I don't see why we should dismiss this thread just because of Teki's previous. I don't particularly see anything "crazy" or whatnot about this topic, and neither would anyone else if they didn't just see the OP and jump in for a cheap shot.

It seems to me that Rice is essentially saying the President told her anything within the terror laws was allowable, and she passed that on. So if the upper echelons didn't agree to waterboarding, someone further down the line, but still high-up, must have done. Or, they're just plain lying, and Bush said "do whatever it takes" or similar, and conveniently left out the "unless its illegal" part.

The "War on Terror" was a phrase made up by some neocon in the corridors of power in the states in order to justify bombing the **** out of some oil rich countries. It's not a real war.

You must be a mug if you think its related to bombing oil rich countries...

Why?

It's related to many things, bombing Iraq and Afghanistan included. The swathes of anti terrorism legislation that has since been passed is another reason.

i agree with azagoth....

But it isn't war.

The "collateral damage" is your civilians not the enemy's civilians so even in war that would be unacceptable.

If you call waterboarding torture, what do you call passing electricity through an individuals testicles? Or pulling out nails?

Some terrorist who plotted to kill lots of civillians gets some water on him, got off lightly if you ask me.

You're missing the point. America signed up to the geneva convention, it's acted against it's constitution in detaining an american citizen illegally. Whether or not you think these things are justified, this can be reduced to a purely legal argument. Even if you think what they did was right, they still acted illegally.

Morally I do think it is wrong though. Mistakes will be made, also I believe in innocent until proved guilty and most of these people were never charged in a court of law. To describe waterboarding as getting some water on someone is a gross understatement. If you think torture is acceptable then that's fine - if people democratically voted for the government to allow torture and the government was transparent about the fact that it was torturing then it would be acceptable (well I'd still disagree but I'd accept it because it was the will of the people). That is not the case though.
