these 'golden hours' strictly speaking do the exif data have to read within an hour of 5.30am and 8.45pm as well (depending on area of country / timezone) as thats when then sun rises and sets? :(

I'm a retard and posted in the wrong thread, doh!

Anyway, Derek I would imagine in Sunrise is at say 6.30am you have 7.30am to take the picture, and if Sunset is at 7.30pm it has to be taken between 6.30pm and 7.30pm - That's how I see it anyway.

Maybe post your location with the picture and a link to the Sunrise/Sunset times for your area on that day to show it was done within that hour? :)

I wouldn't worry unduly about that. Most people's EXIF time data isn't that accurate anyway, so you're not going to get disqualified for it. To be fair, the only time you're really gong to be able to get that sort of shot is around sunrise and sunset anyway, so it speaks for itself.

Good idea for a theme.

I was just out in the garden taking some pics in the 'golden hour'. And yep, I'd say the time doesn't matter; the lighting should speak for itself.

The golden hour is also the first 60 minutes after a critical injury.

The main aim of air-ambulance is to get a trauma patient to hospital within that time.

Andrew

For me Ive never thought about time it is just one of them moments when you just know its that time as the colours the sun is producing just makes you go WOW. Also just to add another thing the Golden hour can just be used as a back drop for a nice portrait or street shot.

Here is a couple I have taken to give people a idea. :)

we don't get sunsets up in Scotland for another month or so :p

I'm just glad the theme wasn't The Golden (s)hour!

Even when it is cloudy I can still see it now and again in the morning but you have to be up about 5.30 to grab it and then you will be lucky to get a hour before its gone behind all the gray clouds.

I'm liking this one, hope the weather clears up soon though its been raining like mad up here today!! I obviously need to get up earlier as I haven't seen a sunrise for ages, it seems to just get light gradually. Is it possible to get sunrise/sunset times for your area online somehere or is it just a case of get up real early and see?

Hey just wondering when we will see the round four marks? :)
This round looks hard!

Depending on the number of entries in the comp the judges seem to take between 2 - 3 weeks to announce the winner. certainly they had their jobs cut out the previous month with the sheer number of entries. so last month will be a breeze for them :p
