One way van hire

To bring my motorbike down to Winchester, I'm thinking of hiring a van in or around Liverpool, putting the bike in the back and driving it down to Winchester with the intention of returning to van to a depot in Southampton or somewhere else nearbby.

I did a search with National Van Rental and was surprised at the price, £39. Perfect!
Not so. They have a £150 "drop charge" which is a charge for a one way rental. This brings the total price to £189 for less than 12 hours rental.

Is this an average price or are there cheaper alternatives? I could drive the bike down but I'd have to take the back roads as it's completely unsuitable for sustained motorway driving and my arse would be in tatters, hence wanting to do it in a van.

Speak to Ford rent a van or whatever they are called.

I moved from Stoke to Lincoln years back & hired a Van from a local Ford Dealer in Stoke & dropped it off at what was Hartwell Ford in Lincoln (now defunct iirc)

The cost was around £60 iirc which i thought steep! please note,this was about 15 years ago and they may have changed their terms etc.

Just thought I'd throw it into the mix. :)
 
Thanks. I've looked into it and it appears Ford only rent out to businesses now.

I can't find anything suitable apart from National but the price is ridiculous. Looks like I'm going to have to bust my balls. I suppose a ride down through Snowdonia on the bike should be a laugh :D
