Help... Trying to install a P6T motherboard into an Antec 900 case - Now, I've had issues where the screws aren't biting into the brass fittings, but I've sort of got round that by using slightly different screws that were provided...

However, now I've unpacked the Noctua NH-U12P, and it is instructing me to fix the back plate behind the mobo... So... I've just taken the motherboard /out/ again... But I want to make sure (with anyone who has experience of these) - I can only assume that the piece that sits on the underside of the motherboard is non conductive? Can't really tell what it's made of. - Also I assume it just sits under the motherboard so the components ontop just grab onto it? Doesn't appear to be any fixings for securing it to the case under the motherboard.

Been a while since I've built something, so this is whole new territory for me.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Looking at the Instruction manual the Insulation on the back plate needs to face the motherboard.

Edit: That was the LGA 775, The I7 should just attach to the underside.

Sorry so are you saying the base plate off of the Notcua IS ok to attach to the underside of the mother board? And it isnt' going to cause any shorting?..;)

Personally don't think the instructions are explicit enough... At least not explicit enough for me to want to play with it on a brand new motherboard..:P

For future reference for anyone else installign one of these - I got the answer - It's perfectly ok to just put the backplate on the backside of the motherboard, and yes it is the fittings that grip it all together...:)

Guess I am just being over cautious..:)

Grr ok follow up for this installation-Now I have put the backplate on - I've installed the chip, but when I come to close the "gate" it seems very stiff, and I don't want to force it - Are they generally quite stiff? The lugs seem to be in the right place.

Any help/experienced views much appreciated.

Yes they can be very tight, just double check the cpu is seated correctly and have another go.

In the end I did double check and went for broke... All seated now... Though I had to remove the Noctua once as I'd gotten ahead of myself seating the fans before I'd attached it to it's fittings... Was a little worried at first I hadn't put enough paste down, but they do say don't put too much on.

So, mobo in, cpu in, and cooler mounted. Just memorya nd PSu tomorrow, then I wait until Windows 7 on May 5th, and then transfer my 1tb drive and my GTX295 from the old system..:)
