Does washing a new pair of jeans make them slightly smaller?

I still think it's a tad grubby not washing jeans once in a while...

Regardless if you 'air' them out, the dirt is still there...Even if you can't see it

I wash mine every 2 months or so, and I try to wash them in the bath even then. Jeans don't shrink, if anything they get a bit bigger over time, I tend to try them on until I get a fit I like, then buy the size down cause they stretch out :)

I do hate it when you have just washed jeans and they have that stiff feeling, with our without conditioner.

Also reminds me of wearing wet jeans and the horrific chafe!

lol - some of you people must really stink!
of course you can wash jeans - its only cotton.

This is why there are always people wearing ugly looking jeans ;) It's like why you are not suppose to water wash a suit.

you've got to be joking that you don't wash jeans. utterly disgusting. i don't anything more expensive than a £150 pair, but all my jeans are washed and are fine. i'd feel unbearably dirty if i didn't wash them. :s

I wash mine all the time and never have a problem.

Some of you lot must be real stinkers....do you wash your tshirts or boxer shorts, hows about socks?

I think the wife would leave me if i didnt wash my jeans for months on end, jesus she threatens to leave me if i miss my evening shower just the once.:)

I wash everything (t-shirts, socks, undies) after one wear, but jeans will only be washed if it would take too much effort to scrub out marks. If they get washed, they just don't feel the same, and I hate that.

Personal hygiene has took a bit of a nose dive in this thread hasn't it. No i don't think I will sacrifice being clean and wearing clean clothes just so my jeans look a touch better...Dirty buggers.

I wash my jeans every now and again - but probably only once a month or if they get noticeably smelly/stained... I have a few pairs so I can rotate... but they really do wear better this way - mine came with a little booklet about not washing them "too" often for best look heh.

If you're not meant to wash jeans because it either ruins the look or shortens the life the question must be asked "how long do you people keep jeans for?". I wash my jeans after a few days wear and always have done yet they're still going at least 2-3 years after I bought them, I don't think that's an entirely unreasonable return on the £50 or whatever I've spent on them, if they last longer than that then it's a bonus but I certainly wouldn't be too upset if that is all I got out of them.

Comparing two pairs of jeans here, one from Route one and the other Uniqlo but both costing the same.

Wearing them most days but washing the route ones at least once a week they lasted 4 months before getting really thin and completely losing their shape/fit.
The Uniqlos have had 2 washes in 4 months and fit better than they did new and will probably last another 6 months of similar use.
