was heading home tonight after a few beers for my mates birthday (nothing heavy as we're both 32 now). but on my way home some girls were hurling abuse at a couple of foreign guys, they've done nothing wrong other than being there at 3am, now the girls mentioned were being quite a bit rude, so being the gentle giant I am I step in, they continue with this un-necessary verbal abuse, so when I ask them what these fellows has actualluy done wrong they start laying into me (i assume because thes chaps did sweet fa), now i'm 6'2 and about the same wide but two minutes later out of nowere two fella's are swinging at me, one armed with the jack from his car, i got free and didnt hang around to get a description and now I have 2 nasty gashes on my cheek. I'm not too bothered about me, i can take care of myself, but when i tried and stand by these polish/latvian/etc men i get the arse ripped out of me literally, for something neither they or I have done. grr. rant over. no point to this at all but still, i'm annoyed, even more so when about 6 men turned upenjoy the weather etc..

I appreciate that you probably don't want to hear this but I think that you have only got yourself to blame. Now, I am not condoning you getting attacked but to be perfectly honest you should have just kept your nose out of whatever was going on between them. I could kind of understand if you had initially got involved if the situation was reversed i.e. the guys having a go at the girls.

Might be worth checking if the area was covered by CCTV and then putting in a report to the police.

Same as mate, it dont matter your intentions, u r always on the wrong side. Good for ya for stickin up for the guys, but u have to watch every angle nowadays

It's a bit cynical, but stuff like that is best left well alone as doing the right thing for someone you don't know will almost always lead to trouble. Doing the right thing in town on a saturday night, could end up in a long wait at casualty or a longer wait for a post-mortem.

For this reason and the general air of unpleasantness, I do not go out into town at weekends, perhaps a few beers on a week night (not friday) is ok, but there's almost always some fool who wants to fight somebody, anybody; it doesn't matter.
I'm the same age as you and used to go out most weekends and a few nights during the week too. I just cannot be bothered with the rubbish you have to put up with, making your night out into a crap experience. There's just no avoiding it in most towns and cities these days. It doesn't say much for those places, and even less for most of the people who live there.

Not wanting to sound patronizing but you should really be able to work that one out for yourself.

I just don't hold the belief that women are totally defenceless creatures. It's a somewhat backward belief really, particularly as in this case it's possible they're the ones attacking others.

Point taken, but generally blokes are far stronger and would be able to intimidate women in this sort of situation. Pick on someone your own size etc.

That's half the reason we are plagued by this sort of behaviour. I'm no good at fighting though and adrenalin paralyzes me, so it would take exceptional circumstances for me to delve in.

Which is why we have this problem. People to blame are the men with the car jacks.

Sorry to hear you got hurt and hope you get better soon.

Good on you for sticking up for those who needed it, just unfortunate that things went the way they did.

This is why people don't help out other people in need, it almost always ends in them getting attacked as well :(

Same here. I'm 26, just over 6'3", pretty built, and I expect I look intimidating at first glance. Any sign of violence however, and my 'fight or flight' response just gives me butterflies :p

azagoth, are you implying you could 'handle yourself' in such a situation? 1v2, one of them has a weapon?

Of course he could, wearing his MP5 t-shirt and wielding said weapon, then smashing them in the face with his roll up keyboard from his back pocket.

It's called Alcohol.
An incredibly harmful and dirty poison that incredibly is Legal, causes more problems, pain and heartache to susceptable individuals and their families than any of the outlawed, illegal drugs put together, as such widely abused by many as a solution to their problems/entertainment... I should Know...
