I am new to the forums, so firstly let me introduce myself.

My name is Omar I am a mere Padwan on the overclockers path to enlightenment.

The victim of my "learning" is a craptastic Compaq Presario SR2019 desktop, however it was so craptastic it wouldnt support a Black Edition 5000+.

Which lead me to this fine place.

I purchased the following equipment ,

Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-US2H

OCZ StealthXStream 500w Silent ATX2 Power Supply

Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer CPU Cooler

BFG 9800 GTX

2gb stick of OCZ Reaper ram.

After cramming it all into the compaq and running some stress and memory tests, everything appears to be running ok.

Only one problem...HEAT! The cpu running at stock idles at 37C on Core 0 and 40C on core1, the GFX card idles at an eye wateriing 60c!

I removed the heatsink and reseated it like a million times, I opened up the GFX card and cleaned out the dust applyed some fresh thermal paste.

No Luck :(

1.Case too small
2. Cpu Cooler is craptastic has grooves from the machining process lapping?
3. GFX card has very little room has about 2cm between the fan and the bottom of the case. Case too small?

I dont want to start clocking till i have a nice cool rig

Advice anyone? Please?

I would suggest you purchase a new case to house all that equipment in, it sounds as though your current Compaq case is to small, and has poor airflow...

The Antec 900 gaming case is really popular, and it also has really good airflow as well...

It would be the ideal case for your new components...

What are the load temps?

Running Prime for an hour cpu temps are in the 50-60 range

My gfx card is melting in the bottom of the case I havent even bothered running a gfx test, scareed i might melt a hole in the damn thing.

The BFG cooling solution is pretty sweet but it uses thermal pads between the heatrsink and ram, which is looking all brittle and flaky. Think i might replace that with some new pads.

I have been running with the case open and my idle temps are 35c on Core0 31 on Core1, the 4C diffrence is from the PSU fan blowing down onto the heatsink.

Ok so air intake is deffo a problem so a new case is in order, but 31C idle still seems a tad high.

Does anyone have any experienc with the sunbeam cooler? There are fine machine grooves across the surface and a few gaps between the heatpipes and the rest of the surface.

Do I have to lap the heatsink :( What if I destroy the heatpipes

Thanks for the help

I didnt have that much money left to spend so I went with the Antec 300 instead :(

That should ok shouldnt it?

I also invested in some AR5 and some superfine sandpaper :)

Cannot disagree with getting a new case but those temps are absolutly nothing to "worry" about..

Mhh i just to get my rig as cool as possible before I start clocking it :)
