I want guesses on how much it would cost to sort this scuff - it has broken the paint so probably wants resprayed.

I see. Well, it was me that did that damage. The guy seemed fine at the time, we exchanged numbers and I told him to get a few quotes and let me know what it would cost to sort it.

He rang me at work yesterday saying he got a quote of £200! I told him that was far too much and asked him to get a few more. I got a text this morning saying the guy he got the quote from is on the only person he'd be happy with doing the job. He says if I don't want to pay it, he'll go through insurance.

What options do I have? Unless they are spraying it with solid golid, I don't see how the hell it'd cost £200.

£200 is probably for a respray of the panel and colour matching. Essentialy the repair shop will remove the bumper, sand it down to remove the paint the respray the whole thing and blend with adjacent panels to ensure the colour matches.

This is indeed a lot more than £60 to do, but gives the best results.

He may be getting quotes to respray the whole panel, where as £60 would get just that bit sorted and blended in.

Tell him you're willing to pay to get the damage fixed, not the whole part resprayed.

He's basically said if I don't cough up, he'll go through insurance... although he only has my name and mobile number... probably my reg too.

I can't help but feel like I'm getting stung here - maybe he's booking it in to have the bumper sorted along with some other work and I'm paying for it?

At the end of the day he is entitled to go through insurance, the damage should be returned to how it was before the accident and sometimes a £60 fix will leave with differences in colour.

If he does say he'll go through insurance you can always be annoying, deny you did it. Chances are he won't have any witnesses, the claim will go 50/50 and he'll lose his no claims.

I'd use that as a threat personally.

Why would you threaten him though? At the end of the day, the OP did the damage and should pay for it. If he's not happy with the quote, then go through your insurance.

How much is your insurance excess?

Threatening him may make him realise it's gonna be easier to accept to just have the damage fixed and not the whole part removed and resprayed.

I'm sure that could be done much cheaper than £200 and to just as high a standard.

You sound like such a decent honest chap.

This was done at a meet (epic fail haha) so there's about 15+ people who will say I did it. To be honest, if it'd been someone who wasn't bothered about their car I could see them just saying: "it's fine, don't worry about it".

Obviously I can understand this lad wants it repaired to a high standard, but £200 seems way over the top. I had my front bumper resprayed (came back flawless) last year and it cost me £50 with me removing/ fitting it.

I am. I've never had any sort of issues like this but I can see the OP's view. He's done damage and is willing to get it repaired and put back to how it was. The other person wants a whole panel removed and sprayed and for such a small amount of damage it's just overkill.

I said threaten to make the insurance claim go 50/50, not make it. IMO the OP has done what he should and is offering to get it repaired, the other person is trying to take the pee.
