ok breen using virgin medias 20mb cable comnnection and has actuall been super reliable - hardly any downtime and for the most part gives me near the full 20mbps download speed on most websites. now though im moving house and i can only have adsl. also sccording to a website because of my distance from exchamge i can only have a 6mbps download speed. i think this is more than enough for most things - playing online games is more about internet reliability than speed as i understand so im wondering from others experience what is the most reliable?

i was going to get the whole sky 16mb package as is the only 1 they offer with unlimited downloads but thats got some rather bad reviews but then afgain so has virgin media and i havent had any problems wit that. be broadband looks good - they offer a 8mbps connection wwhere they dont mention upload speed and a 24mbps service with 1.3 mbps upload - is a faster upload speed needed for online gaming? i don't know what i have for virgin media and sky dont mention it at all either.

thanks for any advice given

All companies have good and bad reviews.

Does the checker show then you can get llu like sky and be?

upload can make a difference.

Sky LLU upto 16mb down - 768k upload
BE value upto 8mb down - 1.5mb upload
Virgin upto 20mb down - 768k upload

o2 and be are the same but i think o2 is slightly cheaper and if you use quidco you can get £70 cashback.

I think sky also offer cashback on quidco but with sky its only worth going with them if you are taking a package deal like tv and phone.

I know I'll get shot down here but if it's reliability you want then I don't think you can go far wrong with BT. With the amount of complaints you see there must be problems somewhere but in 4 years with them I've only seen them down once and that was for a few hours. The £17.99 a month I pay them for option 3 seems more than reasonable and I've got a subscription free Vision box to supplement my PVR requirements when Sky+ is busy or down. Even the 802.11n hub has been reliable for me. Finally speeds are consistently between 5-8 Mb/s. I'll admit it can slow right down but this is rare and happens for all ISP's. BTW I am in a village and not a city centre.

Admittedly some of these deals are because of retention but after the first year anyone should be able to strike something similar. However, for pure reliabilty I think they're up there with the best.

BT is too expensive and has those awful bandwidth caps but they are reliable...but isn't the theoretical max a copper line can handle 8mb?

Ive never had one single problem with Sky and been using for around 24 months now.

I get about 14.5mb constantly, pings are low and there is absolutely no fair usage tosh. I do around 100-150gb p/m including large uploads to a server at work and never had any problem with them bitching at me.

I paid 3 times more on IDnet p/m than what I'm paying now and got nailed for a £5+VAT charge when I went 0.26mb over the measly 30gb limit, was then I waved goodbye to them.

ok thanks for the feedback i guess its very area dependant and sky in my area seems pretty poor.

checked out that isp ratings site the top 2 are rather expensive and fast.co.uk dont have an unlimited option by the look of it. titan seems to offer an unlimited option for £22 a month which is ok but then they have 110 gb cap service for 47.99 a month, must be misunderstanding something there!

be gets quite high ratings in most places, seems to be the best bet atm. is be value deffinitly 1.5 mb upload because the unlimited service only advertises 1.3? nothing mentioned on the value but im guessing it will be 768k like the main providers

Nildram are good although I do worry seeing who they are now owned by
O2 are good, but are part of the monitoring group that BT is also a part of
