I currently have a NEC 20WGX2 pro screen and I fancy upgrading to a 24" screen (got some money spare)

I love my NEC and can honestly say its the best screen I have ever seen.

I play games and watch movies.

So, I have drawn up my shortlist as being the following

NEC 24WMGX3

or

HP LP2475W

These seem to be most comparable to my IPS screen (I am aware the NEC isn't IPS but comes close)

What are the pros and cons of each?

Which would you advise getting?

Is there another monitor which should be on my shortlist? Budget up to £500.

Thanks

EDIT: I can't afford the NEC MultiSync LCD2490WUXi so no point suggesting it :(

Well, I bought the NEC 24WMGX3 a few days ago, and I can attest to it's brilliance. For games and movies, the black levels are great. At about 60 degrees from facing straight the screen straight on, the colours start to shift, but not like a TN panel that becomes impossible to view, it just seems a little bit lighter.

The remote is a nice touch, and makes using the OSD much easier.

I haven't seen the LP2475W, so I can't compare, but I went for the NEC due to the reports of the HP having a pink-green colour shift across the screen.

If there's a con, I'd have to say: Cat hairs, fingerprints and shiny black bezels do not mix. :D

Benq fp241w, might be getting on a wee bit now, but still regarded as one of the best 24" inch lcd's. Uses a p-mva panel and has all the connections such as hdmi, dvi, vga, svideo, component and composite, also has a built in usb hub, Ive been using one for over a year now and cant fault it, no ghosting when gaming and no noticeable input lag. Ive found it to be a very good all round screen as i use it for watching movies as well as general pc use. Think they can be had for around £350.00 now as opposed to £430.00 when i got mine.

Yeah I had a quick look at the Benq but discounted it after reading about a few issues with backlight bleed and humming.

Yep i heard about the humming issue from someone on here that got one, luckily ive never experienced it myself, or any baclight bleeding issues either thankfully.

I've been going on about how good this monitor is lately and I agree with this!

I know what you mean and I keep being swayed towards the NEC but anybody here got one after owning a 20WGX2? Were you disappointed with the quality or are they comparable?

Still not sure, now considering the Dell 2408WFP since the A1 revision seems to have cured a lot of problems like the lag.

Where's Baddass when you need him? :p O want to order tomorrow and just can't make my mind up :(

I'm here :)

have you read my reviews of both of those? Remind me what your uses for the screen are as well?

Shortlist of a few things which i think separate the two:
  • HP has H-IPS panel, so slightly wider viewing angles and free from off-centre contrast shift of VA panels. Might be more suitable for photo work and colour critical works because of this?
  • NEC has a massive range of extra multimedia features like remote control, speakers, pass-through mode, MPA etc....lots of things if multimedia is your game :)
  • NEC has slightly better input lag
  • NEC has standard sRGB gamut and HP has extended gamut. Might be a decision maker depending on your uses for the screen and if you are working with extended gamut content
  • The HP offers slightly better colour accuracy, but both are good
  • Response time is slightly better on the HP from what I saw, although there is some slight RTC over-shoot

Read both reviews as I always do with your site. It's the first port of call!

ANyway after seeing loads of problems experienced on here with the HP screens and NEC having great warranty I have decided to stick with the NEC.

Just hopw I'm not going to be disappointed coming from my 20WGX2 pro. :(

Oh the use of the screen was games and dvd watching.

i'm sure you'll love it. it's a great screen, and for your uses, i think it's probably the best choice of the two :)

^ It would if it was still on the market. You can only find the 26" variation thesedays.

Definitely a viable option, for whenever Hazro make their grand comeback *fingers crossed*.
