Not been on holiday for agesss and I'm hopefully going in summer, want to go somewhere nice and warm :) just wondering where is the best place to book it?

I will be looking to book the flight and hotel, that's all. Most likely Tunisia or Egypt, duration ~9-14 days.

Afew questions;

How much would I be looking to pay roughly, will be for 2 adults.

Is there anywhere in Tunisia or Egypt you would recommend, or not recommend? :p

Best, most reliable place to book from?

If I think of anything else I will ask, but any help/advice much appreciated. ;)

Personally I quite like www.expedia.co.uk as it has some good deals, a nice system for choosing your hotel (you can use a map overlay system to get a proper feel for the location), built in pics/feedback etc (obviously check on tripadvisor too...) etc. Then when you want to tweak your selection (picking flight times, room upgrades etc) the pricing is very clear and easy to manipulate rather than having to start over.

It can also make a good starting point even if you don't actually book through them, i.e. get a trip planned and then hunt around for a better deal e.g. www.ebookers.com or for flights www.kayak.co.uk

I recently booked our the vast majority of our honeymoon via a travel agent (first time I've ever used one, multistop trip so felt like getting an experienced hand on board) and to be honest doing it online is easier in some respects. In the end I booked one of the hotels myself as I wasn't happy with their suggestions and they couldn't match Expedia's pricing. As you just want flights and hotel then it's definitely the way to go. I booked a New York trip via ebookers and Stockholm via Expedia, no problems with either of them although the ebookers pricing was very strange (fluctuating widely by the hour and then going back).

We are off to Egypt (sharm el sheikh area) this month. Booked it through TC as it was the best deal we could find.

Have a browse of some travel/hotel review sites find the hotel you want to stay at and get hunting the internet for the best deal.

Somethign to note is TC would not price match there own online deals, but I see no real advantage of booking it through an actual branch as you get customer support over the phone for anything, who have been quite good so far.

LOL! The first replies are always classic on OcUK.

Holidays are a nightmare to book online. I think things change too quickly.

I have always found lastminute.com to be horrendously expensive.

Check Teletext Holidays but don't rely on the price displayed. Give the agent a call for the current price.

From what I heard about the XL fiasco, the people that booked online couldn't claim any of their money back for whatever reason. I don't know the specifics but it has put me off booking online in future.

yeah, if you book some retarded holiday package/flight through a company already about to go bust and is a dodgey cheap pile of crap in the first place thats the kind of thing you risk.

Booking through things like expedia or ebookers for flights is fine. I ended up getting my flights direct through AA when I went to New York but only because I missed out on a deal as the flights went up by £100 in an hour or so, the original price was still available as a deal on their own website.

Thats the other place to be checking, direct on the website of airlines that go where you want to go.

Some very useful information, much appreciated. I am checking out some of the sites mentioned now.

I will pop into a travel agents though just to see what they can offer. :)

Why abroad???
Newcaste is nice or even Brighton!

Hmm Tunisia or Newcastle... Egypt or Brighton? Tough choice! ;)

I would avoid lastminute.com like the plague, their prices always seem high for me.

I normally use http://www.ebookers.com/, as they seem to have very good prices and don't forget quidco.

Just a quick edit.

ebookers always seem to have better prices than expedia as well for me, at least where I go.
