this is a weird question and it might be really obvious but apparently i have a wisdom tooth coming through at 28yrs old. now i don't remember having had any come through but i've been advised mouth wash as it is tender when i eat and apply pressure to the area. mouthwash i've been told will help. is this normal? is there anything else i can ask about?
the pain is very occasional as i've been told i have an abnormally high pain threshhold.

I have one extra one on the left side, it has been growing for years and gives me mild grief occasionally, dentisr has never said anything about it so I guess its just normal.

Edit - I am 33 and its been growing for about 3-4 years.

Bonjela. Your mouth is one of the most sensitive places in your body when it comes to pain lol.

Just talk to the dentist at your next check up if it doesnt get better.

I must be extra wise - I'm 18 and already have one wisdom tooth fully erupted!

Maybe get some teething gel that they sell for babies and try it?
But definitely go to the dentist to check that they're growing at the right angle, and you'll have enough room and all.

I'm 33 and my third cut through last week. Hurt a bit, but nowhere near as bad as when the nerve dies in a molar!

Of the other two - the first is fully out, the second is half out and hasn't moved for a year or so. No sign of a fourth at all.

I'm 30 and have a wisdom tooth that's been giving me grief on and off for the last 3 years. It's half through but every few months causes my gum to get inflamed. Because of the way the tooth is placed it'll be an expensive surgical procedure to remove it. So I've just lived with it taking ibuprophene for the pain and occasionally seeing the doctor for some antibiotics when it gets really bad.

If I had the money or an insurance policy that covered it then I'd get my wisdom teeth pulled. But as of yet, I've managed to live with it...

In the UK they don't tend to touch wisdom teeth unless they are becoming infected or impacting - never mind that they can push your other teeth out of position (and waste thousands spent on orthodontistry).

All 4 of mine came in when I was 16, they came in funky so I had to get them pulled. Had a lot of post-surgery bleeding and it was painful. The hydrocodone was nice but they didn't give me nearly enough. I ran out in a few days :(

Got mine early on, they sheered, cracked, broke and totaly ruined my bottom back teeth, now im missing 3 teath at the botton on either side, 6 in total. Couldent close my mouth properly untill they broke so I see it as a good thing. Pain? damn right, Absesses for 2-3 years with almost constant pain. OUCH!

Late 20's is when wisdom teeth usually flare up, mine did and I had to have some serious and expensive dental surgery as they had to split my gum then carve each wisdom tooth into 4 pieces to remove them. Painful and bloody treatment that took weeks to heal but had to be done as tooth pain was becoming unbearable.

lol mine came through between the ages of 14 and 16. bottom two first iirc. (No these were not my adult molars, i got those when i was 10 - have always teeth-ed early). deffinatly wiser for it :p

Best thing i found when it got painful was ibuprofen and bonjella.

If you use corysol(sp?) mouth wash to stop any infection but I never had any real problem with my wisdom teeth.

KaHn

Yeah seriously get the tooth brush right in there and scrub it quite vigorously when you brush your teeth. You can also dip the tooth brush in corsodyl and brush it a bit more. Mine got infected and I had never experienced pain like it. Never had the need to use painkillers in my life up till that point.
