Hi all, I currently have two 8800GTX what do you think would be a good replacement i.e same performance but with a single card, as two 8800GTX's are running hot and power hungry LOL.

I had the same and went to a GTX280 single card back around january, never looked back

Performance is similar if not better in places as there is no SLi driver faffing around

We have similar specs

Also case temp dropped dramitacally!

You may still get £75ish for those 8800s if u punt them,

I would say a GTX 260 would have comparable performance to your current rig, and only £139.

So depending on the condition of your current cards, you might be able to swap your SLI setup for a single card and not cost you a penny, thats if you sell them.

I disagree, i went from 8800GTX SLI to a single GTX280, and in all but one game ( which didnt support SLI ) the 8800GTX SLI set up was quicker.

I agree tho that case temps went down, power usage dropped and it freed up the PCI slot i needed for a TV card

Cheers, I am taking photos now ready to sell them, would a GTX275 be far behind a GTX280?

Still similar though yeah?

Im talking 3-4 fps either way depending on the game

COH saw a slight fall while GTA took a rise, as you suggest its all about SLi support too

So whats my best option, money is a bit tight going use the money off my two 8800's and then add say another £50.

Don't want to loose any performance really

TBH i cant answer that, i did all my research at the time and the final straw was an OCUK special on all the 280s price at the time,

Looking around the forum the 260 seems to get good price>performance reviews at the mo, but thats a further drop in spec for ya

Just hope I get a decent price for my two cards.

The new GTX 260's (55nm 216sp), when overclocked have similar performance to a gtx 280. So I would still say do that, especially given the budget, and to answer your question about the GTX 275 it is only marginally better (1-2 fps) than a GTX 260 so personally I would save my money.

Thanks, my two cards should just about cover a 260, and only a slight drop in performance.

i would say the ocuk straight away still the same card at the end off the day and at £140 you cant complain you could have a look in clearance for a 280 gtx if you feel lucky :)
