Just a quick question, I currently work for a government organisation via an agency temporary, however the exact same job is going that I do but is permanent and is being advertised internally.

Is it possible to apply for the position thats internal or do you think this wouldn't be allowed as I am paid by Hays.

I'd really like to apply as I enjoy what I am doing

Yes, it's possible, although I'd be surprised if the agency didn't have a clause that meant if you ended up being employed by the company they would need paying a finders fee of some sort.

Agencies are there to make money off either you, the company or both. Apply for the job then sack Hays off.

Its got nothing to do with Hays, if they ask, which i doubt they will, just say you quit

Oh right I always assumed that if its internal its people actually employed by 'xyz' and doesnt include agency.

I only noticed the position being advertised on the companies intranet..

They (agencies) can and do check this stuff out. It's written into the agreements that if you employ a temp permanently before a certain length of time has expired they can invoice you a finder's fee.

were I work temps are allowed to apply for internal jobs, infact many internal jobs are created that way so they can get the temps onto permanent contracts...

Yes, seen it happen many a time before. Mates have done it and have been glad as they are employed by that organisation/company rather than an agency.

If you haven't already, approach your manager and inform them of your interest. They will know the details of the contract with your agency and maybe able to "fast track" you into the position.

Lasted year I worked for a local authority through an agency when a permanent position came up. My manager liaised with HR and after filling out an application merely as a formality I entered into a permanent contract.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am going to send an email tomorow to the office manager and see what happens. Not sure how I am going to word it yet but I'll think of something.

Thanks

I managed to come up with this. How does it sound?

Hi ,

I noticed on the intranet that you are currently recruiting internally for permanent A2 Insolvency Officers. I was wondering if it is actually possible for me to apply even though I am working for you but via Hays agency.

Should it be possible for me to be illegible to apply I’d be grateful if you could let me know as I would like to go through the right procedure and since I am already starting the A2 role temporary I’d obviously be delighted to turn this permanent.

Is it possible I could have a possible chat with you regarding this?

Thanks,

Not the best wording I know..

Will have happened plenty of times previously - just go for it tbh...

I had a temp job at a bank when I first finished uni - they got teams of temps in each month from the same agency and after working there for 2 months the manager took us all to one side and offered everyone permanent contracts.

I've got no doubt that some sort of arrangement was in place with the temp agency especially given the number of temps the bank hired from them on an ongoing basis.

Why should the OP "sack off the agency"? If it wasn't for the agency they wouldn't even be there on a temp basis, let alone know of the perm vacancy. Times are tougher than ever for recruiters, and that sort of attitude doesn't exactly help things.

How about asking the HR department, instead of on here.

Some jobs might only apply to perm workers.

Best to ask HR before you wasting your time filling in forms.
