Almunia In Goal For England ?

Should have done better with Ronaldo's free kick, probably Park's goal and maybe Ronaldo's second too.

However, he also pulled out some impressive saves on the night as well.

He's definitely a good goalkeeper, just had a bad day at the office on this occasion. Definitely good enough to be England's number 1, not that I care. England can go screw.

I don't see the value in this:

1) He's not English, how sure can we be of his commitment? What happens when England play Spain?
2) Potentially disruptive influence on the squad, how would you feel if you were an English keeper and you had some foreign schmuck who can barely speak the lingo keeping you out of the side?
3) It's not worth taking the chance on someone who is just a 'decent' keeper. If it was Casillas, maybe I'd feel differently, but lets face it, proper English keepers like Shilton and Seaman were better than him. If Foster or Kirkland (the only two I rate) can't pick up the mantle then we'll just have to wait until a decent one comes to the fore.

Couldn't we have had Cudicini a while back? Would have been a better choice than a joker who gets beaten from 41 yards? :D

Top contribution. Cudicini has been and still is on par with the best in the world. He was never behind Cech ability wise Chelsea just had the "misfortune" of having the best two keepers in the world and sadly one had to be left out. And, in my opinion Cudicini is English as he has lived and worked here for over 10 years.

If we want to go down that road then lets see about our manager who can barely string a sentence together, in English.

Cudicini has had an unbelievable amount of shockers in his career! Cech was streets ahead ability wise. Cudicini was a great shot stopper but not much else.

The difference here is that Capello is a proven world class manager with a terrific track record - if he was nothing special (i.e. Almunia quality) then people would take much more issue with him taking the reins.

I know I've joined this debate WAY too late, but you've gotta watch this clip if you haven't seen it yet, absolutely brilliant ! Jeff Stelling, Paul Merson, Le Tissier, Phil Thompson and some other annoying guy debating this whole scenario. I think Jeff Stelling was brilliant, all we needed was Kamara in there too:
