You likely won't be able to use it for anything, usually they're for firmware updates and service engineers on these sorts of things.

Probably used if iPlayer or other VoD services becomes available on Freeview/Digital. That's what's been said for the Ethernet port on the Sky HD box anyway.

Now that would be awesome. I miss having virgin media solely for the VoD. Sky + VoD would be a classic combination.

logging in maybe ? for tekkys, when it goes in for repair or what you could do is, stick it on a switch, with just one other pc and wireshark it ? at my uni in their halls, they distribute free view over Ethernet, it can be pretty cool

its more than likely for a serial to cat5 console cable connection ala cisco etc..
