What car for 7k? Was looking at a Fiesta ST

I already own a 1.6 Fiesta and was looking at the ST for an upgrade. However, if you look a little older for cars, you can get a whole lot of car for the money.

My mate recently bought a sporty red mercedes for about £2k. The car is just class in every aspect. Even though it's old, at one time it was probably worth around 20-30k. Any recommendations?

The car needs to be quick. 9 seconds for the 0-60 max.

For the same price you can get a Renaultsport 182.

The Renault has better handling and is more fun to drive in my experience. The ST is better built and more nicely finished.

I would choose the Renault.
 
The ST has a nicer interior. If power is an issue you can easily top it up to 180bhp with a few mods. Try and find a "mountune" ST if you can as these will be upgraded out of the box.
 
Leon Mk1 FR or a higher mileage Cupra R. Drive one they're not slow.

Dont knock the Renaults till you have tried them out! Very chuck able and fun to drive. You can get decent 172 cups now for £4k
 
300-350BHP mid/late 90s Corvette with all the toys. 0-60 in about 5 seconds. 0-100 in 12.5. Get a really nice one for 6-7k. Insurance should be pretty cheap. You'll eek 25-30mpg out of one driven gently.

And hey - then you'll own a real car! Muhah! :D :p

All the info you really provided is that it needs to go from 0-60 in less than 9 seconds.

Doesn't really give us much to go on.
