Will a AMD Phenom II X3 work in a Gigabyte 780G Borad?

I'd like to upgrade my CPU from a AMD X2 64 4400 to a AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition 2.8GHz.

I've currently got a GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard and OCZ Gold Edition 2X 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C5 RAM.

Is the X3 compatable with the board and RAM?

there are a couple of different revisions of the board, not sure what's different about them. Open yopur case and it should be printed on the board somewhere.

was just going to say get the F8a bios and you should be fine

I'm currnently using a Mini Ninja cooler in a passive state on the X2 4400. Will I need something better for the TriCore?

No idea on that sorry, but as a rule, if i get a new cpu i usually get a new cooler . That's just me though.

My motherboard came with the original bios, I still got into Vista okay etc, downloaded the very latest bios, updated - voila!

Updated to F7 last night. CPU order will be placed once I pick a case

the ram is fine but you could upgrade to 4gb of 8500 as your new phenom will allow that
