Love Pizza but me and gf have been trying to live life a little more healthy so have now since cut down on take away pizza such as Dominos and been buying supermarket (I know perhaps not the best) freshly made pizza, such as chicken and bacon with Mushroom or Ham and Pineapple... the ones that are not frozen and used fresh dough etc...

Are these actually healthy or are we just kidding ourselves...?? We normally make a bowl of side salad to go with it, we was at first making bowls of chips as a side but have now since kicked that habbit and changed the chips for salad...

also, gf when we go out is kicking the habbit of ordering fizzy drinks as she normally does the driving, meaning I can drink... So instead of cola or lemonade she's gone onto J20 orange and mango or something with ice.... so we are really trying to make healthy choices, even when going out....

Gawd, you have no idea how hard this is to kick the junk food habit and make the 'right' choice.. lol

edit - just to say, pizza is something like once every two weeks or something, not every day etc... lol

Fresh or frozen pizzas from the supermarket are fine as long as they're not a regular thing [i.e. once a week or so]. Switching from chips to salad was a good idea, just don't soak it in dressing.

By the way, J20 probably has more sugar and calories than beer. You'd be better off with Diet Coke.

I'm sure it's not as unhealthy as takeout pizza but still unhealthy all the same. Dough is full of carbs and all that cheese can't be good.

Hmm.... Yeah the cheese isn't best for you, but then like I said we like pizza so have cut down and now starting to eat fresh ones, so least we can still enjoy the odd pizza....

gf doesn't drink beer etc.. tea total, so does sometimes drink pepsi max if they serve it, but recently gone off diet coke, or coke in general... We must be doing something right though...

She's lost 5 lbs in the last 10 days (wii fit is an excellent set of electronic scales) lol and I'm no longer gaining weight and arms legs are getting stronger again from swimming and walking a lot more...

A good walk (hour or so) does me, well both of us the world of good... Good thing about MK, lots of lakes to walk around and excellent way to get out and exercise...

My girlfriend and I made our own pizza the other day.. 2 bases, tom puree, mozz cheese, and some spicey mexicana cheese.

Worked out at about 1.50 per pizza (we only had 1, stuff left to make another).

Spread the puree on, mozz cheese, grate some mexicana... then we chopped some cherry tomatoes we had in half and put those on it. Took about 15 minutes to cook and tasted greate - Ill be having it again! :)

I wouldn't be too strict on yourself. Ignore people who talk about cheese and carbs, just be sensible with your diet. Eat well and don't eat till you feel full, eat till you're satisfied.

I have a fresh pizza [+ beers] about once a week and I'm not in the least overweight. Just be measured. Go for your once a week supermarket pizza and enjoy it.

Calories per 100 ml of J2O (I checked apple and raspberry - other flavours may differ) - 49 kcal
Calories per 100 ml of Coca Cola - 42 kcal

So, J2O has a higher calorific content than Coca Cola so drinking it wont help you lose weight. Although the 50% fruit juice must mean overall it's a better drink. Just don't drink it if your intent is to lose weight.

It's perfectly healthy as long as you have a balanced diet. Cheese is a good source of protein, calcium, vit d and of course fat. As long as you don't have other fatty foods it's fine.

it wont do you any harm once a week or two... just make sure you exersize aswell as eat right, one without the other isnt going to get you anywhere fast!

supermarket pizzas wont be healthy but a damn site more than say a dominos, if you like pizza and want something healthy why not make your own! dough is easy to make or if your lazy you can buy frozen pizza bases, use some dolmio type pasta sauce instead of puree and add your own toppings!

make your own dough and top with what you want - tastes much better and you choose how unhealthy or healthy you want it to be (plus it is easy - do a search on here, I've posted recipe before)

I started to make my own a while back, me and the girlfriend got fed up with pizza hut, the pizzas were getting crap and spending about £20 wasn't going down well either. Got my dad to show me how he made his own base and tomato sauce and away I went. They taste better, cheaper, healthier and I get a pretty good feeling from knowing that I made them :) since before this my cooking skills were limited :p It's also got me into cooking a lot more. The recipe from Jamie at home has a good and easy way to make the base and sauce.

I know that the Sainsbury's ones are pretty calorific (9-1000 calories each which as a main meal is on the high side). The Pizza Express ones are better at around 500 as they have less cheese.

The only time I have pizza that has anything to do with the supermarket is when I'm being Lazy and go and buy a Pizza base. I usually make mah own dough and top it mahself

Oh well sounds like its ok if you're sensible and don't have them too often..

Like has been said, its really hard to end up looking at food and thinking should I really eat this, and we're trying to not do this.... We just want to eat healthy, and not gain anymore weight...

I thought she'd done really well when she told me how much she'd lost in 10 or so days... considering she still drinks the odd fizzy drink and has orange juice in water, two sugars in tea etc.... But then we have both increased our exercise, quite a lot actually....

We are both walking each day (and we have no choice on this as we have another dog now), we go swimming at least twice (sometimes three times) a week and recently got wii fit - which gimmicky does actually make you sweat if you use it correctly...

What is good, is cutting out KFC and cooking a lot more home cooked meals.. and eating breakfast in the morning, mostly cereal with fruits.. Its really making the difference, but like I said only wanted to know if I can still get away with fresh made supermarket pizza - which we can from the sounds of it..

Excellent, Pizza and Salad tomorrow eve, then burn it off with a dog walk and Wii fit.. lol oh and maybe a little more on the side.... *wink* that's great for burning it off... lol

Thanks all.....
