Blackberry or Nokia

I am trying to decide on a new smart phone. I like to be able to sync the contacts and emails etc.

I am not to bothered about syncing music and video provided I can drag and drop them to the phone (but it would be nice).

Both Nokia and Blackberry can do this on windows but I was wondering what connectivity usability was like on Linux. Is one better than the other or are both rubbish.

I will give serious consideration to an Android phone as an alternative but I have no interest in Windows Mobile or iPhone.

Can anyone share there experiences good and bad.

I've got a blackberry bold 9000 for my work phone and it's a very nice piece of kit, this is the first so called smart phone I've ever used. Internet/emails are excellent, GPS on google maps etc is really good.

All depends on what you really need

Not sure, we have our own blackberry server that sync's with exchange/outlook. I can't see why it wouldn't though

As far as I'm aware, all Nokias have the 'Data Transfer' mode, so that they act just like a USB key.
'Music Player' mode IIRC is MTP and again should be well supported, but I haven't tested that.
Haven't tried playing with contacts or the calender though.

Nokia are one of the only brands Im "Brand loyal" to. Love their phones, always have done.

Had a play about on my Mums blackberry a while back, wasnt impressed, I just like the layout and display of the Nokias.

The N92 looks quite cool too.

I have no problems in synching or data transferring between my phone and Linux laptop.

What programs and distro do you use to do the sync.

I have been eyeing up the Nokia E63 or possibly a E52 or E55, subject to price.

Would be good if I could sync with Linux.

I'd look into something really easy (opensync stuff can be painful and isn't necessarily very pretty). You may want to consider using Google Mail + Contacts + Calendar - using a desktop PIM-type client to connect to all these services and sync. Then use a phone to sync with the google services.

Rather than having to get opensync over bluetooth working...
