AMDs first energy efficient Phenom II CPUs closing in fast

With the Phenom II X4 955 and 945 out and doing their part to grab more market share from Intel, AMD is preparing a new wave of AM3 processors which includes no less than eight energy efficient parts. Likely to arrive next month (maybe at Computex), the e-series DDR3-supporting quad- and triple-core CPUs bear both the Phenom and Athlon brands and feature TDPs of 45W and 65W (depending on model).

As detailed in the chart below, the 65W AM3 line-up includes two Phenom II X4s (905e and 900e) and two X3s (705e and 700e), while the 45W pack features the L3 cache-less Athlon II X4 605e, 600e, X3 405e and 400e. The processors prices have yet to be revealed.

I wonder how they will clock? Only reason I have not switched to the Phenom 2 chips is that I think they are dreadful clockers after being spoiled by wolfdales and yorkies. If we can get AMD chips stable well above 4GHz at reasonable voltages I might be tempted to make the switch.

I think it will be after Xmas before we see 4Ghz on avg.

Dont intel quads strugle for well above 4GHz at reasonable voltages too?

Mine strugles for 3.6 (65nm on air :()

E0 Yorkfields don't struggle above 4ghz. I had a q9650 awhile back that did 4.4ghz easy.

Also had a QX9650 briefly which was the older C1 stepping and it did 4.2ghz

Very nice, I doubt these will clock like the X4 955 but who knows . .

Like mentioned probally later this year they will release lower TDP energy efficient CPU's equivelant to the X4 955 or better. :)

Nice!!

Those Athlons X3/4s should make excellent processors for HTPCs

And i am quite curious how they are going to compete on performance clock for clock with the Phenoms 9xx series.
