I quite like Universe at War - it does things a bit different in places. Don't let the opening tutorial level put you off though (it gives you a few humans to control for some reason despite all the playable races being alien).

The other thing to note is that even though it's only a fiver, if you look on one very well known site, you can get the boxed version for 98p inc delivery, which is a no-brainer really. And there's always the demo from the normal games sites...

Defence Grid is also very good - well worth £3.50. Again, try the demo.

As mentioned above, don't let the opening "human" level put you off. There's a decent enough game there, especially at 98p

Got my 98p copy of Universe at War today, and lo and behold it comes with a free month of Xbox Live

I might just buy 12 copies and have a years worth of live for £11.76
