Hi guys

Built my rig a few weeks ago and over the last few days I can here a high pitch whistle....

Stopped all fans in turn, CPU, case, graphics and still there so I think it maybe the PSU :(

This will be the 3rd item I have returned faulty from my build so I'm gutted to say the least....

Anyone had this and returned a PSU before.? All purchased from OcUK of course!

Could be also common noise effects of high end graphics card's power circuitry. Does it vary basing to GPU load?
(also motherboard has power circuitry)

Take PSU outside of case and listen then.

Could be right, it seemed to change pitch as I scrolled up and down a web page?

Gone at the moment
Graphic card noises can be lot more curious than that:
During testing, the card produced a regular high-pitched electrical beeping when ATITool's artifact scanner was in use, and a rhythmic whining during 3DView.

In addition to the usual squealing under load which plagues many modern graphics cards, the card emitted a constant, high-pitched whine when first installed, which did not stop until the drivers were installed and the system rebooted. Furthermore, after a fresh reboot the card occasionally generated an unusual squeal that fluctuated in frequency and tone for about two minutes. It was as if a tiny gremlin had crawled inside the machine and started to play miniature bagpipes. The noise was associated with an increase in GPU temperature to about 58°C, suggesting the GPU was under some kind of load that we were not aware of.

Just use tools for stressing GPU like FurMark or OCCT.
(OCCT's CPU test probably can't reproduce those sounds while also it causes 12V load)

Bringing this thread back to live as this high pitch noise is beginning to pee me off..

I have taken the graphics card out, and disconnected all drives, stopped fans spinning and it's still there, I think it's the PSU to be honest?

What are Corsair like for exchanging units?

Both PSUs and graphics cards can do this. However, the noise does not in itself point to a problem with the product. I guess you'll just have to contact them and ask, but unless the unit is faulty per se, you might not be able to get a replacement.

Well I have raised an RMA note, I'll argue the fact that they pride themselves on powerful but quiet PSU's and that this is not quiet at all....

Other than that all I can hear are fans and they are on low :(

nice to see they respect their customers.
I've got a Corsair as well (although I'm a bit luck and it's a dead silent one) but it's always good to be reassured that it's okay to recommend Corsair in all aspects, warranty as well. :)

I've returned noisy PSU's - if you state your reasons for returning carefully and politely you'll usually get a replacement without any problem. Especially if in any of their advertising they use the word quiet.

Exactly, I stated I had done some fault finding (removing other components etc) and that it is down to the PSU, no other issues...

Only thing is I need to pay postage back but thats not a biggy if they send out a new unit! :)
