BARCELONA Grand Prix 2009 - Race 5/17

From looking at the above, i think its going to be a good race. Ferrari have definitely improved. Well, other than the ****-up with the 'ice-cream man'.

Lewis nearly 40 kilos more than Jenson, how many laps is that ,,,, 2 stopping as opposed to 3 ? might it work or will he be a big fat slow roadblock

Stick a safety car or two in there and you never know , it might be a great race tomorrow, or just the usual Spanish GP , though i hope for more .

With the revised run off areas, I would guess there is a little less chance of safety car coming out,

So much for Brawns 6 tenths for the new aero package. They are about where they were before. If all cars get a solid get away it's vettels race for my money. He just has to sit and wait for button to pit.

Red Bull looks like the car to beat depending on how it eats tyres. Plus they have the money to keep on pushing.

.

I think the brawns fallen back slightly. Isn't this the first race they have been lighter than the other cars.

Money still has to be on the brawn, it's been a better race car all season and it's Spain. What's it 2/3 wins have been from pole?

5 out of 5. This year though they dont have as much data in these cars. I don't think it will be the same old story. They have been lighter before but slightly fortunate with how the strategies played out. To win tommorow I think Brawn will have to come up with something special.

To me though it shows who the real genius was at ferrari. Brawn left Benetton in 96 and in 97 they pushed on hard. Now ferrari are playing like amatuers and his own team is on it.

New floor/diffuser is just about ready to :D

It will be very interesting to see how that does on a car with a backend that already seems planted. Whether the gains are even worth it for the design of the car?

I think Vettel is my fav for the title this year, especially while red bull has the money to not worry about a budget too much this year. Brawn I think will hold them off for the constructors.

To be fair, that either is in the hunt is about the biggest shock I can remember.

Every extra kg of fuel costs a Formula 1 car 0.035 seconds around the Circuit de Catalunya, and a car uses an average of about 2.4kg of fuel per lap.

Anyone know how this is calculated? How accurate is it? Surely it will be different from car to car as some cars will work better than others in either a light or heavy configuration?

I'm not convinced we can use the figure "0.035 seconds" with much confidence.

Yeah that figure can;t really blanket all the teams, if you've got a well balanced car with a good amount of downforce, weight is going to affect the car a lot less than an unbalanced car with a less amount of downforce. I.e. brawn vs mclaren

I think those figures are calculated to give us a rough idea, but should ba taken with a pinch of salt.

Even if Jenson has to stop once more than Lewis in the race, providing Jenson can get away and maintain his first place, he will have the pace to have that extra pit stop in hand no problem. It's Massa that Jenson has to worry about the most I reckon, strategy wise, and it all depends on the Brawn GP's ability to pull out a lead on the Red Bull of Vettel as to whether Vettel is a threat. Of course Massa might find that his KERS gets him in behind Button by the first corner, in which case, i'd be very worried if I was Jenson, and hope that my car was quicker over a race distance. I think we might just see Felipe baby on the podium tomorrow. I'm hoping that Lewis and Kimi have a good scrap, as their pace will be similar, although I think at this track the Ferrari is definately the quicker car.

It would be difficult to bet against J.Button winning it from pole position, as history suggests that that is where the winner normally comes from, in the Spannish GP.

For those of you who are suggesting that the BrawnGP cars aren't fast - their qualifying pace is usually slower than their race pace (relative to other cars), which means that if they qualify in pole, they will be even more dominant in the race.
