Prayer's Answered? Western Digital HD TV

We have one of these in my flat hooked up to a Epson 1080p projector using the optical out for sound to watch some fan subed Gundam 00 (720p MKV’s , works nicely , some issue on the subtitles. Like it like to have start a new line , this is often but not to the point you get annoyed by it (will be fixed with some new firmware that’s in beta) and we can see the fan subbers notes/comments which can be annoying or funny. the the Video quality is very good , there are a couple of UI quirks but very minor

Over all this is a great little unit and i would recommend it to anyone that wants to play video files on a TV or projector without having to bother with a media op/laptop/console

Got one of these last night. They are tiny :D Its played all MKV's ive thrown at it and looks/sounds great. I have it on digital output and my 5.1 system sorts out the DTS. works well. Ive tried a few of my avi files they work ok also but think ill stick with HD content.

Just ordered one of these, along with a rather modest 320GB WD Passport drive. Told the other half it'd be great for holidays and the like as she could take all her girly TV series with her - she fell for that and paid half :D

All he needs to do is start talking about how there aren't enough seeds or peers for the torrent to download, she'll be lost by the technical jargon and stop listening and just give a resigned sigh, by which time her attention span will have reached it's threshold and she'll have forgotten what she was asking about!!! ;o)

Oh god people actually watch TV on holiday?

Depends on the holiday. Some people like to spend all day on a sunbed and drink themselves stupid in the evening. What I get upto during the day normally results in being too knackered to do much in the evening - so I do watch a bit of telly :p

Hi m8 what 5.1 surround you using for dts sound ?

Hi guys i had mine about a month now its good for Hd films but i find it wont play wmv films well it will play film but not the sound as its not supported. since i had this wdtv i keep think i should have gone for the popcorn hour instead as by the time i buy an amp to play dts sound it will cost as much as a popcorn hour or more and the popcorn hour has more features than the wdtv if i had the chance to send this back and get the popcorn hour i would.

Got one last week and have hooked it up to a WD Passport 750Gb

I'm quite impressed. The support for MKV is a godsend (x264 format at least) but the shoddy support for wmv is a bit of a letdown.
It's played most things i've thrown at it, aside from some DTS re encoding that is. On the whole a thumbs up

got mine today for £79.99, thought that was a pretty good price, got it hooked up to a 500gb disc and all seems gravy! need a bigger t.v now!!

Will it play blueray rips ?

Depends how they're ripped. The full list of supported formats is on the product page on the WD site, supports MKV/264 fine so the majority of rips will be fine. Only problem you could run in to is if you want the full HD audio tracks as I don't think it'll do the latest Dolby/DTS high bit rate codecs.

Thats a tough one....the Popcorn is a great unit, but the WD TV does a great job at a much cheaper price. Also, the possibility of more modified firmwares cropping up is pretty high! This will no doubt add additional functionality to the unit, not to mention WD's continued commitment to development of the firmware also
