I installed Windows 7 last night and I love the look and feel of it but I'm going to have to revert back to good ol' XP because my games run really sluggish. It's probably down to the fact I only have 2GB of RAM tbh.

I'm quite gutted that it didin't work out for me :/

Loving it so far... unfortunatly the 'wise people' at nVidia haven't released a Win7 driver for my graphics card (GeForce2 400/MX... I know.. but I can't afford a new on yet!!) so I'm stuck on a measly 1024x768 where my XP does a nice 1280x1024...

Just installing Virtual PC2007 and XP-Home for a play... did try the 'Built in' virtual PC toy, but my Processor don't support the Virtual Thinngy needed!..

Yes my PC is a *****... but its my test bed.. don't want to install 7 on my HDX-16 Laptop just yet...

On that note.. does anyone know if Win7 supports Blu-Ray??... thats one of the reasons I'm not installing it on the HDX-16... I'm a bit butt-puckered about FUBARing my beloved (and not cheap) Laptop...

Sluggish? Smooth but lower framerates, or stuttering?

Try disabling a few 'features'. Windows Defender real-time scan, auto defrag, Indexing, SuperFetch e.t.c.

Do some before and after 3DMark runs for consistency.

I've gave the OS a try out of curiosity, performance in World of Warcraft seemed worse than Vista to me and the Aero GUI also seemed quite sluggish compared to Vista.

XP64 is still miles more responsive than both and WoW performance far smoother.

It was stuttering. When loading up a game it would start off fine but after about 20 seconds of moving around it would become quite stuttery and the camera movement felt like you were underwater, as though there was some resistance there.

Thanks for the advice but it doesn't matter now because I am back to using trusty XP. I will give Windows 7 another go if I upgrade in the future.

Maybe graphics drivers then. The beta ones I've been getting from nVidia (via Windows Update) haven't always been an improvement on the previous one.

If I am going to make a fresh installation of the RC version on the same partition I have the BETA version, should I first try and format the partition (which I have tried but it telling me its in use, so can't format it?!?) or can I just start the installation and when it tells me that it will create a folder called windows.old just continue and later just delete the windows.old folder.. would that work or should I do it some other way?!?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated since I would love to have it all done before 3pm! :)

Are you trying to install the Windows 7 Release Candidate from within Windows?

Nope, I restarted the computer with the disc and did it that way.. got as far as picking where to ahve it installed and when I choose the partition where I have the BETA version it told me that it contains windows drives (or something along those lines) and would create a windows.old folder.. I was not sure if I should proceed or not so aborted it..

Just format that partition and do a clean install.
