Severe Video Tearing With ATi

I changed from nVidia to ATi yesterday. I did a proper uninstall and reinstall and games are working fine. But for some reason, media software will cause my videos to tear. That is, except for Windows Media Player.

Prior to making my graphics upgrade, I had the K-Lite code pack installed. This includes Media Player Classic, which is my favourite software for watching videos. But I get severe horizontal tearing if I use that now.

I downloaded VLC Media Player and that has the exact same issue. I tried Windows Media Player and it worked perfectly.

Can anyone assist me with this issue?

sounds like your cpu maxing out. What cards? what video format? maybe the nvidia supported h.264 decoding or something and the ati ones don't. If it's the spec in your sig, 1080p films will not run smoothly at 2.4GHz (WMP uses multicores), but O/Cing to 3GHz should solve that problem. 720p should be ok at stock.
Also you can go to advanced settings in VLC and ffMPEG in one of the output modules (I think) and then disable the loop filter - that can help a bit if it's the h.264 decoding that's the problem.

Perhaps try turning off all the avivo video settings in the ATI CCC.

By tearing do you mean that ghostly after image left behind on darkish scenes?

Thanks for suggestion, will give it a go. :)

By "tearing", I mean there is a wavy zig-zag going through the middle of the screen. It is extremely visible when the camera pans.

My CPU is already clocked to 3.2Ghz.

I have 2 4890s in Crossfire.

I get the problem with all video types. I was trying to watch a movie in standard avi format (700mb~).
