Hey guys just bought an 08 kymco kr sport for a grand, i know its not the best but its cheap still has 12 month warrenty and done 2000 miles. Anyway doing CBT on Saturday, so i will be riding it from Sunday onwards! Just wanted recommendations of gear really, i dont want to spend a fortune, so any good value items i will be interested in. Mainly looking for helmet, gloves and a jacket?
About eh helmets, is it best to get one where you can slide down an internal black visor for the sun?

Cheers

There was a recent thread about someone's CBT experience. Might be worth a quick browse? http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18002690

The clutch tripped me up on my CBT. The handle would be just at the end of my fingers and trying to control the friction zone was an absolute nightmare. When I bought my own 125 bike I adjusted for about a centimeter of extra slack in the cable and so had absolutely perfect clutch control.

Click the image below for a crude illustration of what I'm talking about. Most cheapy 125s use bicycyle-style adjusters on the clutch cable.

Check out Caberg helmets. They're cheap but don't let that fool you. Most are 4 or 5 star SHARP tested.

If you're thinking of biking properly I would recommend spending a bit on a helmet. I like the AGV Stealth but at ~£200 it might be more than you're prepared to spend now. I spent £60 on a RST (PC1 i think) when I went for lessons.

I also wouldn't get too hung up on internal visors - sunglasses have a similar effect and you can just get black visors and change them in 30secs (literally) if visibility drops.

Try as many helmets on as you can, fit is more important than price, no point in having a £300 lid if it gives you a headache after 10 minutes, look for something that feels snug all round your head without any obvious tight spots, do the strap up and make sure you cant pull the helmet off from the back towards the front. Gloves - go for something with a double stitched seam i.e. ============= all round the fingers etc, carbon / plastic knucle protectors are worthwhile. Clothing - I find Heine Gericke offer a good balance between cost and quality but as always fit is important as well as good stitching around the seams. Best of luck with the test.

I have to agree with this.

I made a shortlist of all the highest rated helmets on the internet. I had a budget of upto around £200. I also had a preference of the particular helmet I wanted.

In the end, after spending about an hour in the shop, trying out different helmets and then re-trying them, I came away with one of the cheaper helmets they offered, as on my head, it had the best fit.

been riding 20 years and had over a dozen differant helmets and the caberg is excellent.it has the best anti mist coating of any ive had including my agv rossi rep.minus 5 middle of winter perfect vision will be my next helmet aswell,a bit loud but not till you get over a ton. not that youd notice on a 125,u can pick them up for under a hundred quid on interweb.flip down internal visor for sunny days, flip it up when it gets dark no need to change visor and yes the filth will pull you for wearing a dark visor, donut eating c8nts.all the lining is removable and washable.this helmet should cost double its price bargain and no i dont work for caberg, just love this helmet.

crikey

full stops were inveted for a reason you know ;)

I have a Caberg V2R, really good helmet, good FOV, the internal visor is really good and the fact its 5* Sharp rated is a comfort. Only thing I dont like is it doesnt have much of a chin guard (I usually carry my helmets by the chin guard flap bit).

Fair points, but punctuation much?

EDIT: Missed the bit about "yes the filth will pull you for wearing a dark visor donut eating c8nts" - I don't agree with you there.

interesting, i have been riding for over 20 years using a tinted visor in the summer and have never been pulled for the tint. I have done motorcycle training with bike cops many times and they have worn tinted visors when riding as well.

i have a caberg flip up lid with the tinted inset, a good helmet. i prefer the schuberth range of flip-ups as they just feel so much better made, the caberg liner feels a bit cheap in comparison.

as long as you make sure to carry a clear visor spare if you won't be riding in clear conditions then i wouldn't worry about it.

you never tried riding through north yorkshire then the same law applies for visors as it does for car windows they probably just usde it as an excuse to pull me but i used to carry a clear visor as well

Might want to stop trying to avoid the swear filter there mate...

My dad's had a dark visor for as long as he's ridden, all over the north east, scotland, yorkshire, the continent, nobody has had any issues with them so long as it's clear weather. Anyone with any sense carries a clear visor anyways incase it becomes overcast.

Don't see why people have a problem with the police in these cases, so long as you're carrying a clear visor, they don't have a problem.

which part, that they pull you for wearing a dark visor or the fact that there donut eating c8nts ::mad:

I ride in N yorks as well as W yorks and Cambridgeshire/Essex/Bedfordshire and I wear a black visor but always with a clear on me. If the visibility drops I change. If I were to get pulled I think it would be unreasonable to do anymore than watch me change them (in less than a minute, literally) and let me go about my way. Seen a lot of people out and about with 'illegal' visors and I get the feeling unless you're being stupid (wheelies, speeding etc) or it's too dark (in which case you're being stupid wearing a black visor) then you should be fine.

And I may not agree with everything I see and hear and experience with regards to the police, but I sure haven't seen any eating donuts and I've never had any problem with them.

If you ride with the same attitude you have when you post you might attract attention. Is that why you have a bee in your bonnet?
