New Track Day Car

The reality is that cars like this are simply overkill for track days and are simply too much for most events and can never be fully exploited due to traffic, a quick Radical is much the same. In real terms putting all of the suggestions above to one side most people would have just as much fun and be pretty much as quick in a Renault R26R or similar as you will in a GT3, CS etc as they are so much easier to exploit and the fear of bending it for most poeple is less likely to bring you out in a sweat so they tend to be pushed a lot harder.

Got to be a GT3 of some description, to me the perfect blend of abilities on and off the track.

Agreed. The Radical got held back nearly every lap. On the plus side overtaking is much easier :D

I have thought about a much more modest car, and I agree, they are easier to exploit. I'll look into that Renault.

True, but I suppose the budget only encourages these kind of suggestions.

Lots of money = nuts performance.

Theres plenty of decent cars that would be fun on the track but i'd be embarrassed to suggest something like a sorted DC5 when the budget is circa 50k.

My personal criteria would be:

Low weight (as possible) compensated by power
N/A or S/C
Easy to drive at the limit
High Driver involvement

I'll need a while to think up further suggestions!

Renault R26R ticks all of those boxes. I think after driving radicals and ferraris, it may feel a touch slow though ?

Yep the Renault would be a good car if you want to get your laptimes down quickly. Plus a lot cheaper to run, I doubt it would need much doing. I am not sure on the pads, but I'd be tempted to get some nice Pagid's in it, then also get a remap, by the sounds of it, it can take it. You want one with the factory option of the half cage and harnesses, plus R888's. With that it should be very fast around the track, plus not kill you.

Maybe, but it depends how hard you push it. I went around Oulton with Paul O'Neil in a Megane (not the R26R) and it felt rapid enough, not least with left foot braking inducing oversteer at every opportunity and driving it at its absolute limit, impressive stuff and great fun too. I wasn't able to carry his speed, but still found it fun and the R26R is a league on from the cooking Megane. I know of 3 people doing a track tour to Eastern Europe shortly who have Pork and Fezza in their garages but are taking their R26R's!

I'd be tempted to say that for the average driver the R26R would be more fun as they would actually be able to push the car to its limits, whereas I feel there is a high chance the driver would be nannying the 911.

The Renault is front-wheel drive :(

But with an LSD, different ball game. As long as the vehicle is balanced then you won't only have understeer. I would suggest taking the car to WIM or somewhere like that, where they can do a good trackday orientated geometry setup.

Maybe, but I promise you the Radical was thrashed to within an inch of its life :D

Hmm thats one thing, have you had any professional teaching for track driving? If not then that would be very useful. You would want to do the ones where you do it in your own vehicle so you at least learn on the car you will be using.
