P45 P43 - whats the difference ?

I have an Asus P5QL pro mobo which supports P43. It doesn't do rAID
I want RAID, so may swap mine for an Asus P5Qe which does do rAID, but is a P45.
So ???
What does it mean and should I care - processor is an Intel E8400 Wolfdale.

Hold on - just been looking at the ASus website, and they say both are P43 - the OcUK site puts the P5Qe as a P45.............

Help me please !

The ASUS P5Q-E is based on the Intel® P45 Express Chipset.

As far as I know the Intel® P43 Express Chipset supports only a single PCI-E 2.0 Slot and therefore is not Crossfire compatible, apart from that they are the same I think? (BIOS options aside).

Theres a P5QL-E which is P43 & The P5Q-E which is P45.

So, does it make much difference ?
One PCI-E slot is fine for me, and I have no idea what crossfire is (some gaming thing I assume )

So what's the problem then? . . . you wanted RAID and bought a motherboard without RAID or? :confused:

The ASUS P5Q-E has onboard ICH10R which is a decent RAID solution so unless you can stop wanting RAID then you will need to swap out boards (P43>P45).

Other than that you could consider an add-in RAID controller? don't know how much they cost?

The problem is I now know that I want RAID, so am thinking of swapping my mobo, just it seemed that according to Asus the board that supports RAID is a P45 and my current one is a P43, and I don't know what the difference is !
I could get a RAID controller but they seem to be pricey and support fewer hard drives from what I have seen

Hi steveinspain.

The P45 and P43 boards are very similar in everything really except maybe an extra pci-e port ( for crossfire which is 2 ATI cards linked together ) and overclocking where as the p45 can handle a much higher fsb than the P43 board.

You wont even notice a difference in the bios bewteen P5Q-E and P5QL pro, i would just get the p5q-e for raid and sell the p5ql pro.

I think he means that the p43 chipset is a failed p45 chipset. (just the chipset not the board)
