Why is my pool water blue?

Is this just to show off the fact you have a swimming pool ?

That's nothing to be proud of in the states tbh.

Just in the UK they are seen as a luxury.

Correct , pools are pretty common in my area. Look at Google Earth just north-east of Detroit (Eastpointe, St. Clair Shores) and you'll see tons of blue dots.

It also appears blue at night under a white floodlight. No blue from the sky then.

But there's blue in the white floodlight.

The pool absorbs the red and reflects the blue, so it looks blue

Nah, pools are pretty common in my area. Look at Google Earth just north-east of Detroit (Eastpointe, St. Clair Shores) and you'll see tons of blue dots.

I know they are, I was actually disagreeing with TFleming by saying that you wouldn't be posting that picture of your pool to show off becuase your pool isn't really anything to show off about as they are very common over in the states.

Why is that?

Not sure really, they just are, if someone says they have a pool over here I assume they are 'well off', but if an American says they have a pool I don't assume anything.

Not a lot of people have pools in the UK, mainly because of the weather I assume, and the nature of the general UK public.
