How much will they give back?

I'm always of the opinion that when there is a frenzy such as this, you have to watch the other hand. There is always something unpalatable being slipped through, under the radar, at the same time. Spin 101

Not really an issue, considering other world events

Hmm, I agree that this issue will be forgotten pretty soon, but that doesn't mean we should just let them get away with it right now.

I disagree with what Fry says about everyone having tried this scam, I was responsible for filing expenses in my last job and I never claimed for anything that wasn't related to my work assignments. It's embezzlement, you'd get fired pretty sharpish in any other organisation, I don't see why the government should be an exception.

I have claimed expenses at work, that maybe (definitely) I shouldn't have.

*edit*

Also, as Fry says, Journalists are notably the worlds worst at liquid lunches claimed at company expense, and BBC Journalists, are as culpable as MPs

My dad claims petrol and parking and will make the council pay if he has to stop over night somewhere.

I could claim petrol, but i don't drive, so i'm not sure it would work :p

Because of the media frenzy on this the politicians are more likely to get away with it. no one really cares any more about individuals expenses claims it is all "Well they are all at it". No individuals are going to get in trouble because lots of people are in trouble instead. What it may due is force them to clean the system up at last but don't expect heads to roll due to the wide ranging scope of the allegations.

Wouldnt it be lovely to have enough in the bank such as these MP's do, to just be able to write out a cheque for many thousands of pounds just like that.
13k for Hazel Blears was it? Thats like 8 months wages for me. Yet she has that money available to just pay back. Its disgusting. :mad:

The biggest joke is that they are now planning on getting an independent company to run expenses in the future, at a cost of £600k per year!

What nobody has asked is where they are returning it back from, is it from their own account or is it from another expenses account.

Heard it said by one politician today that it was understandable for MP's to have to use the expense accounts due to their low wages and that if they had to live only on the wages they were given many MP's would not be able to continue to work in London. All this is so unbelievable and demonstrates how far from the normal man in the street these people are.

I would like this investigation into expenses to go all the way down to local counscillors as i'm sure the whole line of goverment in this country has it's noses in the trove.

The biggest joke is they kept playing the morality card with Sir Fred and how it was legal what he did but not morally right.

TBH I dont blame them, the loophole was there and they exploited it. I have friends who are outraged by it all, they themselves are self employeed and use the tax system fully to their advantage. If the loopholes are there you use them until they are closed.

Ooops;
