Support S.O.P.H.I.E

S.O.P.H.I.E (Stamp. Out. Prejudice. Hatred. (and) Intolerance. Everywhere)

Why would I want to do that? I'm British!

Ok so I don't actualy think that. I will simply say awesome campaign and I wish them luck with it. However seeing as I'm not (or no longer) a metal fan I will not be buying the song.

Good job you're a qualified psychologist/sociologist and can back up that sort of sweeping statement.

you can raise all the money you want and spend billions, you will not stamp out prejudice and hatred, EVER..

they should either raise money to give to families as compensation, pay for peoples medical bills... i.e productive things

if "rasing awareness" is anywhere on the page... actually anywhere in the book/article... automatically the entire thing is total bull.

that said i dont know what they are doing/ charities in general/ only responding to what i see in the thread

it is rather tragic, but what is also tragic is a bunch of people standing around smelling their own farts and talking about nonsense.

they way i will contribute, is that if i see people being attacked/bullied i will just flip out and attack the attackers..

would you not help out people being attacked? i doubt there is anything funny about that

I would risk assess the situation to see if there is anything I could do to help other than call the police. Running into such a situation without concern for your personal safety like you suggest would be a best silly and at worst fatal.

Despite what you think, you're not invincible - in fact your made of squishy stuff like all the rest of us.

Yeah I knew what you were getting at, and I completely agree. However I also agree with what platinum said about not being to stand and do nothing.

:o

Still, I couldn't stand by and see someone getting KILLED, backbone?

I agree, it would be a tragic thing to see, but you need to think if you'd be any help. If they're willing to kill a random, why would they stop at you? It's not about having the balls to do it, it's about having the common sense to know if you can help.

Come on mate, these type of people tend to be bullies, and as bullies, will almost 100%, back off as soon as you show a bit of teeth, not as if these are gangsters, protecting their turf.

*edit* But, I digress.

mabye i would get knocked out, its still not silly, id be doing the right thing

what about the sophie situation, all the details are on wiki, would you have helped them? no you wouldnt, you would have called the police, things would be exactly the same as is on wiki right now.

Just to put that comment in context; my point is that projects like S.O.P.H.I.E are much more effective at combating street violence then vigilantism.

its not vigilantism, mabye you should check your dictionary

I'd like to say I wouldn't just stand by but given that it was
a "vicious mob attack" from "a large group of people"
I think if I were there I wouldn't have gotten involved if they are attacking strangers for something as insignificant as their appearance, then getting involved would just make me their #1 target. I'd have done the same as those there who phoned for an ambulance, and help if possible, but I don't think I would get involved if I was there alone.

And if you had your way, it may have been two deaths. Would that not have been silly? The 'right' thing is to do as much good for as many people. Getting injured or killed hurts more people then just you. I think Sophie's family know that all too well.

And what you're suggesting could have been interpreted as vigilantism.

a person who wouldnt die for something doesnt deserve to live.

being injured doesnt even come into my thought process anyhow

It's all what ifs though, all I am saying is that Bullies tend (almost always) to back off, hence a strong presence could have evaded a tragedy.
