It's almost noon and all my kit just arrived from OCuk. Am hugely excited as I'm about to start building a PC for the first time. I'll keep updating this with progress, pictures and questions throughout the day....weekend...week, depending on how badly wrong it goes for me. :-]

Wish me luck everyone!

Cheers,
Jimbo

Sweet, I'll be watching this thread... don't forget pics & good luck! :D

Oh and don't forget to connect all the power cables to the motherboard (most common issue ) :p

Thanks for the tips and encouragement everyone! I've put the CPU in and am now moving onto the beast that is the Noctua cooler...

Why are you cleaning the cooler on an install? Is it not properly clean already from new?

Typically people will recommend isopropyl alcohol or a proper TIM cleaning solution, the Akasa Citrus stuff is pretty good. That said I have used nail polish remover in the past directly on cores (Athlon XP era) and it posed no problems contrary to the warnings.

I always clean both of mine before I install coolers properly, You never know. And I also do a test mount to make sure the TIM spreads nice and even.

I use the Akasa Citrus stuff, had it for YEARS. And used it quite a few times, on a couple of different computers (for friends, family and such). Amazing how far it goes. Need a Lint free cloth to wipe off dust and stuff after though (after it's clean and dry).

Back on the cleaning topic - I've used vodka and it works well.
Not a PC fan but an interesting build - good luck with it :)

Just realised that the cooler was oriented wrongly, it wouldn't have been blowing air out the back of the case. I'm not disassembling, cleaning the CPU and will post another pic when i've got the beast cooler re-installed...
