I'm thinking about switching my internet provider, but im unsure about who to go for.

Im currently with *deep breath* AOL.

Yes, i know its like, the most hated ISP around, but i have been with them for 9 years, almost 10 and i have NEVER had a single problem with them. No disconnections, no capped speeds etc (I seem to be the only one)

I'm currently on a 2Mbps package (unlimited) and i actually receive around 2.6Mbps, which is nice, but im starting to wonder why im paying just under £15 when i can get 8, 16 or even 24Mbps for the same price (or a few pounds more a month)

So, ive had a look around and the most appealing to me atm is Be Broadband. Is anyone using them, or more to the point, can anyone recommend them? Whats the speed like? Is it stable? Any problems?

Please feel free to suggest any other ISP's and tell me who your are with so i can get any idea of whos with who :p

Thanks!

I would highly recomend not using freedom2surf. Heavly restricted during peak times or any time that isnt 3am.

Screen shot of my current connection freedom2surf bt rate my connection as 8mb.

Another point all file sharing , newshosting p2p etc etc is banned between 7pm and about 12pm.

AOL, you can't do any worse thb.

I'm with BT.
Downstream....6,880 Kbps
Upstream ........448 Kbps

Prob go with Sky next, they seem to have a better deal with BB, Line and TV packages.

I've been with Be for about 18 months.

My line is crap so I only get 4meg down and 1 meg up (not their fault though) I've never noticed it being limited. In some months I've downloaded over 150gig, and I can always download at the maximum speed allowed by my sync speed.

There have been a few days where I've had connection problems, but I think it's been 3 Sunday afternoons in the 18 months or so I've been using them, which is irritating, but not the end of the world.

I was with BE for a number of years and the service was very good no caps or problems with the connection. They do use a foreign call centre but even talking to the guys there was never an issue. I only moved because O2 took over BE to start their own internet service(they left BE to carry on as a seperate company as well). Exactly the same network as BE but cheaper due to having an O2 phone and UK call centres.

All really trash to be honest. Best you can go for at the moment is virgin media. They're pretty much controlling the scene.

o2 are the best I've had in terms of speed. However it's probably dependant on the area you live in and your surroundings. (Better than BT / Virgin)

No caps or anything and I torrent, LOTS :D

Been on the Sky max package (£10) for the last couple of years, and couldnt be happier, 12.5 MB down with no limits, caps or FUP to my knoledge, regularly surpass 150gb on usenet each month.

O2 and BE are the same (same network, different pricing/packages) - Virgin seems fast but then you look beyond their advertised claims and realise that they will throttle you to virtually dialup speeds the moment you attempt to download anything large.

Been with BE for over a year now and regularly download gigabytes a day with no contact about any FUP (all legitimate, downloading backups and uploading large sites for work). Used to get around 4Mbit on ADSL, sync as 12,500Kbps and download at just over 10Mbit (~1.3 MB a second).

Sure they do

If you have o2 mobile I would say just go with o2 even if you don't have o2 mobile just get some of there free pay and go sims sent to you and use one of them for the sign up.

If you can get O2/BE LLU at your exchange http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php

Then this is about the only truly unlimited ISP out there.. No caps, no restrictions day and night..

O2, using Quidco cashback + 3 months free are just amazing value for money. If you have an O2 mobile you get £5 discount a month.. a whole year cost me £18..

O2 use the same network as Be, who offer a slightly more controllable service, but do cost a little more.

If you can't get O2 LLU, Don't get O2 'Access', this is done over the regular BT ADSL system and sucks.. so I'd then look at Virgin, you will get higher connection speeds, and for the whole excellent throughput too, but their STM system does give a throttled service for large chunks of the day.

Yup don't listen to JFox at all, I've been a Virgin customer for years now & although the service is partially unlimited you will still get your speed throttled at certain times of the day if you download too much, I say partially unlimited because of the throttling.

If you want a truly unlimited as per the ISP's FUP then BE/o2/Sky broadband Max are the ones to go with.
