All of a sudden BBC HD is too much for my laptop and desktop taking up 99% cpu usage bringing both machines to a crawl, even the standard def ep's are using 30-40 % cpu usage.

now before anyone claims i should upgrade. this laptop is a intel dual core t4200 and can chew with ease 1080p wmv with cpu resting around 30-35% usage.

this has not always been the case as i have had no probs with BBC hd since it has gone live, only in recent week/week half has it become a real problem.

its the same in I.E too.

i have a 20mbit connection also, so you can rule that out.

i don't do anything that would warrant me getting as virus, i haven't had a virus in years, that's why i don't install an av.

im thinking its something the bbc have changed recently in the way they deliver hd to people. just wanted to see if anyone else had noticed this.

How do you know you don't have a virus if you don't have a virus scanner?

The same has happened with me, but not just HD services. Sometimes it stutters/stops on just iPlayer radio playback.

Somethings gone amiss - who knows what though!

I don't know if this is any help to you (probably not) But a similar thing happened to me a while back.

I down loaded one of those Gadget things for Vista it was one that lets me know dates for TV shows I like to watch.

Well as soon as I installed it my cpu usage went to pretty much 100% and I couldn't do anything (comp is a q6600 3.4ghz 4 gigs of ram and ati hd4870 in x-fire)

I couldn't even uninstall it. Had to do a system restore which fixed the problem.

only gadgets i have is weather , cpu meter and bbc radio, and i have had those way before i noticed problems from iplayer

Apparantly the HD shows from BBC do require a bit more power to watch than other HD formats, but as you had it working in the past that shouldn't be an issue.

Do you just watch it straight from the website or are you downloading them first?

I don't know about you but I was having this problem the other day, I googled for ages but couldn't find the answer, in the end I just reinstalled iPlayer and everything was fine then :)

Does it play dodgy in all browers? Have you tried using another, such as Google Chrome?

It might just be memory leaks in your current one, which may need updating.
