Go buy 1/2 kilo of stewing beef, an onion and beef oxo. Brown the meat, brown the onion, chuck over a dessert spoon of flour, add stock cube with pint of boiling water and simmer covered for an hour and a half. Add a tin of peas, tin of carrots and tin of potatoes (all drained), simmer for a further 30 mins and you have a big tasty stew.
Take a tin of peas, cover with boiling water and blitz down until smooth. Now add a few slices of chopped ham and that's ham and pea soup. Season as you like. Use a pinch of mint instead of the ham and add a little milk and that's pea soup with mint. Big hunk of bread and butter with that, delish.
Fry a small finely chopped onion and a clove of garlic in oil. Add potatoes, tomato (fresh, tinned, ketchup or puree) and chilli and that's pretty much bombay potato. Add spinach instead of the tomato and that's pretty much sag aloo.
Mushy peas have to go on your chips, end of. Marrowfat are genuinely horrible by themselves and are only good for soup in my opinion.
Edit: fry small onion, pinch of curry powder, add tin of carrots, plenty salt and pepper, boiling water, blitz, carrot soup
